Hey man, I rooted for the Sox. I am a Cubs fan. I like good baseball. The Sox played good baseball. The Cubs were one of those great, but didnt get it done teams from 1910 to 1945. The Sox have had a woeful last hundred years, until last year. By the numbers historically the Cubs have been the better team. Bartman, who cares he is a footnote. Now for the goat, there is some interesting history. Here is how the story goes:
Vasili Sianins owned a tavern across the street fom the chicago stadium. One day in or around 1940 or so a truck was passing by filled with live stock. In passing the tavern, somehow, one of the livestock, a Goat, fell off the truck and wandered into Sianis tavern. Immediatly the goat became an icon of the tavern. Sianis loved the cubs and the goat and in 1945 decided to purchase two tickets for the WS between the Cubs and tigers. The second ticket to go to the goat. Well we all know that the Goat was denied entrance into Wrigley, because he stank. This infuriated Sianis who in turn put a hex on the Cubs by stating that a World Series would never "be played at Wrigley again". The cubs can win a world series, just not in Wrigley field.
Now here is a bit of Cubs trivia for the Diehard fan. What was the billy goats name?
WHAT? there is no choice for "neither" in the polls!
Jackhammers....

I'm just fed up with the excuses that are made when the Cubs lose. Earlier this year, there was a picture in the paper, that showed a few cheerleaders on a Dugout at a Cubs game. The capion said "Could this be the distraction that made the Cubs lose?" After a Sox loss, the coments are "Their bats weren't in the game", "The Pitching couldn't get the job done". "They stranded too many runners", etc.

How bout when Burhle has a bad game and they say "oh they were using juiced balls" or even "they were picking up our signs and cheating" talk about whiners and excuses lol
.
i will root for either team when they do good and have a chance at the play offs or world series. Im at cubs fan first so if the cubs have a chance il root for them. If we cant Il root for the other part of the city to get teh job done if its possible.
Id NEVER cheer for the soxs.... Not even if the won the world series 8 times in a row with only 8 guys on the field...

..... Wait i take that back... Id cheer for them if they dropped to last in the a.l.

BUT... thats why im a CUBS fan and not a wishy washy " Chicago Fan"....

Juiced balls?? Please.... Picking up signs... maybe. Even then though you can ask almost any sox fan and they would say he got rocked. It happened... I had to walk around repeating to the cubs fans "I know, I know... he threw like $hit and got rocked". Thats that.

So who wants to bet $$$ on the cubs vs. sox series??
Dan if the sox take the series (best of 6 games) I will wear a sox hat to every race for a month
Wait a minute am I a part of this conversation or is everbody ignoring me. I am no wishy washy "chicago fan" and I am not saying that your saying that I am Rolleyes But come on if you love baseball and truly love it then it doesnt matter who you root for only that you appreciate that you have baseball to watch and history to remember. There are moments in sports that may never be repeated. That you may only see once in a lifetime. Recognize this and you will appreciate the game even more and understand its history. Baseball is game of compromise, balance, strategy and sheer will of spirit and athletics. Its history is made up great players and managers who played fair and won or lost, or cheated their way to the top. Baseball is a game of deception. It makes you believe, it makes you hate, you wear your heart on your sleeve. But if you see through the BS you will see its a philosophy and not just a game. That who you rooted for is meaningless and only the history counts. Because in the end you'll only remember what when and where you were when it happened.

It is easier to do it by series in case they split like past years....

Meh... still no worries. But about the $$$ LoL.

I understand what your saying ... I guess im ignorant, but i couldnt care less if a team i dont like ( hate = sox) set a record or anything like that....

Now if its a team like the orioles or the rangers a team i dont dislike for any reason set a record... Good for them...

The juiced ball comments were floating around since the first week of the season, and WAS NOT started by the Sox OR Sox fans. It was started by the News media, in reference to how many home runs are being hit all over the league. As for "Stealing signs", I have never heard that excuse used.
I did chris... It was somthing about a team ( I cant remember which) seeing the sign the catcher called and flashing it wit a light on the scoreboard for the home team hitter to see....

Ok Roc. I HAVE heard something about that, but it wasn't in reference to Burhle's horrible outing last week, as Mike had implied.
Yeah... it wasnt from this season...

Thats been done for years in baseball. Although frowned upon its a part of the game. Cheating that is. A juiced ball is outta the hand of the players, that comes from manufacturing or the inconsistency thereof. MLB and Rawlings claim all balls share the same spec. But pull the leather tighter and the ball gets harder. Junk balls on the other hand are in the hands of players, scuffing, spit, vaseline any foriegn substance constitutes a junk ball. Outfield spies have always been there, just like back in the day the Yankees had a floating fence. When the opposing team came to bat the fence moved out, when the home team batted it moved in. Fudging the foul lines. All parks are supposed to face east/northeast but they don't and its against the rules. Hell, Bill Veeck once put a 3ft 7in migdet named Eddie Gaedel in a game against Detroit when he managed the St. Louis Browns. The guy had a 1 inch strike zone! Incidently his jersey number was 1/8.
Quote:Yeah... it wasnt from this season...

So basically, he did one worse than make excuses for "his" team, he's using other fabled excuses, and blaming another team... lol
BTW, Does anybody know the answer to my question above? What was the Bill Goats name? Ya get smiley face if you get the answer right.

In your story, it says the goat was denied entrance. In the posted link, it says the goat WAS allowed in, but both the goat and owner were kicked out before the end of the game.
As far as I have come to understand it there are two stories. One he wasnt let into the park as per PK Wrigleys orders and Two he was let into the park and was ejected by the ushers due to complaints from fans about the Goats Stench. My version is the one from the Billy Goat Taverns own website on its history. If you google: Was the Goat allowed into wrigley field? You pretty much get all the variations of the story.
