Bumper is gone.
I heard this scuffling noise in the pit box look over and find Jim hauling half of a stampede body post to the truck. What are you building Jim? After continuing work on my comp truck I look over and see this. I left the shop for a christmas party and when I came back I saw that Jim had it finished off. Day dreaming Jim Jim started the build up of a new winch bumper. He had the All pro offroad bumper in mind. Jim sat down and pictured winch mounts in his head. He then put mocked it up with a cardboard chunk. More later...

Jim called the family out today, he wants to get this rig ready for a weekend crawl fest that is coming up.
Jims Dad went to work on the brand new micro winch control unit while Rick and Jim continued progress on the bumper. Jim used the spring loaded center punch to mark some holes for the bumper mounts. After I drilled the holes they picked out some hardware. (Jim) Perfect size bolt Rick They then began to discuss the winch fairlead. After Jim explained to me exactly what they wanted, I machined one from a scrap I found. After I welded the winch plate and fairlead mount on they went to work mocking it up. More later... Possibly later tonight...

This thread never ends.
Anyway I caught Jim and Rick today, I guess they pulled off to the side of the road and were talking about some MNRCRC Comp coming up this Sunday like the one Jim went to last time. Rick: Wow! Jim that truck is looking good, going to the comp again this weekend? Jim: Yeah, it's a long drive but I hear there will be a whole lot more scale trucks this time. Rick: Count me in, I just fixed the quarks in my rig. Rick: Nice, I see your done with the bumper. Jim: Yep, just came back from the paint shop. Jim: Wow I must say now that your truck is a runner it's really looking good. Rick: I'm working on a bumper for the front, but I just hacked the stock one for now. Jim: Well I better head to the shop, I want to repaint the silders before the comp. Later on... This I'll do the job. Done More later...

Jims dad came by with a whole lot of goodies Jim ordered for Moab Nationals 07 trip. Jim and Rick are doing a wheeling trip this fall on their way to moab. Jim ordered a bunch of stuff to prepare the little yota for the long distance trip.
Dad: Wow this thing's gonna rip that little yota over all kinds of rocks. Jim: Yeah thats the plan, The Crawler store hooked me up with a great price on this one. Jim: What else have you got back here? Gear set and spares. Jim: The cheap $37 ESC came in from korea. Rock on, Rick has been using one of these for a while now. He said it's smoother on startup then a quark 33, I just wish it had a drag brake. Thanks Dad! Lot of stuff to install I guess I better get these gears out of the way. Jim bought these gears and spares off a guy that recently did a solid axle swap. After removing the old used up gears from the trans it was clear what had to be done. Teeth were worn sharp and were no longer engaging properly causing transfer case to make a pop pop pop noise. The new gears although used were in excellent shape. However, Jim knew that Tamiya's crappy metric pitch would never hold up to brushless power. He knew that the fresh new teeth would have to be cut off and new spur be installed. So Jim drank a beer to calm his nerves. Then he used my lathe to remove the gear teeth. The he used the dremel with a sanding drum to remove the material from the center of the 60t rc10gt spur. After using a toothbrush to remove the dust and dirt he assembled the gear. He then went to work on the lower transfer case gear. Out with the old. In with the new. Mmm grease! Greased up and ready to go. More later...
