1/8 Buggy...Recomendations?
#1
Shortly I will have a $650 credit at my local hobby store. I am planning on using it to get an 1/8 buggy. Any recommendations?

Currently I like the Sportworks Mayhem, but am curious as to what eveyone might suggest. I would like for the $650 to have me pretty much ready to run. I also have a REVO, so I have all the necessary things to start it and sutff. I will eventually put a Spektrum receiver in it as well, as that is what I have in my Revo.

So what would you guys get?

Trade in services for a hobby store that is moving. Rather than bill them for what they need done, they agreed to give me store credit. So I am not sure if I am limited to what they have in stock, or if they will order for me. I have done this in the past with them, so they know me prety well. Outside of credits, I spend a lot of cash there too!

And I just looked that car up, it's like $499 for just the kit correct? I would still need to get servo's, receiver, and an engine. That would take me well beyond the $650 range correct? Or am I looking at it wrong?

Or am I gonna need to spend that much to get something good?

That's I guess more what I was looking for. In the previous message I didn't mean to sound like I wanted something cheap. If the credit is only gonna get me a car, and I need to piece the rest together, that's fine. I just want everyone's opinion on what they think I should get. Sure it would be nice to get something for that amount that is RTR. But you get what you pay for. I don't need it to be super top end, meaning I am not racing it. It's for fun. And I will take it to the track. I am sure I will upgrade over time, but I also don't want to to be cheap!

Ofna Jammin's, not too much money, but it is a good buggy for racing.

Anyone see the new Sportwerks Turmoil? I just came across it on Horizon Hobby. I assume this is maybe the next after the Mayhem? Opinions? Not many people have given me any advice here as to what they would recommend...

Not much advice because at 650 your severly limited to what you can buy. You ay you dont want cheap but 650, you cant do much with but a rtr. And rtr's are never as good as a kit.

You figure I have about $500 in and engine and 2 servos, not to mention receiver and then the kit and then all the spares you will need.

My suggestion is if you dont want to go cheap, hold off and save up some more cash and then get something. Unfortunately with your store credit you cant pick up and used stuff.

DO you have any experience with 1/8th scale, are you looking to race only or play around in the back yard and stuff.

Money aside...I have more than $650 to spend. I figure that will maybe get me a kit and engine, if that. I guess. forget my credit, what do you guys recommend as a good car?

I currently have a REVO, so no to the 1/8th scale experience. But I am not new to the hobby. I had a good ol Optima Mid back in the day...

So I am looking to have fun, but may get competitive.

I like the Ofna JAmmin, (because I have one)

I had the Kyosho SP2, amd it was not for me, I amnot a smooth enought driver for it. I drive the Jammin better because it is a little more forgiving. I have the Factory Team adition, that comes with the best shocks in the industry and the kit goes together really easy. Plus its an Ofna so parts are readily available. The kit goes for around 500-550. The Mayhem's llok decent for the money but I have no experience with them. In my honest opinion when you get into the higher level kits not much seperates them. Also see what your LHS keeps in stock for parts, because maybe you could use your credit for hop ups or spares...

I have run Kyoshos in the past, they are the luxury "top of the line" you could say most expensive buggies out there. But if you were going to spend that kinda cash i would say go with the Xray good buggy just a little bit more pricey. Jammin is a solid car, some guys have had alot of problems with part wear etc I run a TTR and IMO it is the best car out there. PArts are extremely cheap, but that doesnt matter cuz the thing is a tank you dont break much
