Was this brought up on 3/12 also?

Well, listen guys. The only reason I even started this thread was to get opinions on what everyone thought about a RENTAL system as it was put to us on Saturday. I can live with a DEPOSIT system as it was put on here by Bernie. I understand that the sport is going the way of personals only, but until the time comes when that is a racer's only option, a deposit system should work just fine. It's just hard for me to understand why something that for years and years was just thought of as part of the business (providing transponders along with the race fee and dealing with the headaches associated with that) all of a sudden is something that management feels is unacceptable and is not willing to deal with. There are a ton of racers out here, myself included, who have NEVER taken a transponder home with them. And by forcing a new racer just getting into the sport to go out and add another 90-95 dollars onto their initial set-up budget is not the way to help this sport grow. If the transponders are there, and the investment has been made, they should be utilized as a tool to help new racers get into the sport. So many people have been turned away from the sport as it is over the years because of the cost of getting started. Increasing the $ needed to race is not the direction we need to be going.

Anyway, I have gone on long enough. Bernie, thanks for clearing up the fact that it is indeed a deposit, not a rental. I can do that. I was just going on what I was told on Saturday, but again, it was not my intention to stir up any problems. You have a top notch facility, and I hope it continues to do well. I know eventually, I will end up getting a personal, but just like anyone else, I want to keep my money in my pocket until I have to take it out.

999.... house transponders years ago as much cheaper. Before personals. our scoring would only have to count 1 to 0 and we would have two rows in our rack. The racers would police the transponders because they had to have one to be scored. back then i lost one transponder in 5 years. The newer scoring counts 7 digits. so the house transponders cost 3 times more money. and we have maybe 15 people using them out of 100 so the racer policing them is gone. so if someone used say number 7 transponder in race one and it was not use for the rest of the day we would not know its gone til the end of the day. and yes 8 out of 10 it comes back in a week or two and some not at all. A lot of out of towner. we know who has it but not alway know how to get a hold of them. We have losted 4 transponders since January and still hoping for 2 too be return. Like I said a racer will miss his liscence before he fines the transponder in his rc. and 5 dollars fine for not returning is cheap.

Bernie im sorry you cant make everyone happy. I suggest just keep running the program how you see fit and adjusting to how you see it will benefit everybody. I personally think you run an awesome program with little to no problems. The marshalling problems are really out of your hand and up to the racers responsibility to be out there when its there turn. Keep up the great work Bernie.

Like I said, if it's a deposit, i'm fine with that. And I was not aware of the price difference of the newer style. That is the first I had heard that and I understand that you are having problems keeping them in house. Trust me, Bernie, I love the new track and I love being able to race again now that my daughter is old enough to enjoy a day out with dad too. I still don't plan on buying a personal in the near future, and I am willing to put down a deposit on the use of a house unit if that's what it takes to keep things running smoothly on your end. I apologize...I thought it was a simpler situation than it actually is. Again, I am not on here trying to cause problems.

I think the liscense thing is a great idea though.

is there any way there could be some sensor rigged up on the doors leading outside to detect a houst transp. like a metal detector does at airports?

that would cost more money and besides what about when someone walks out with their truck? that has metal on it and it would trip the sensor

No I was saying "like how a metal detector dectects metal, this would detect transponders".

That's too much cash to drop on a system like that revo2k, not very realistic. If everyone got in the rythym of following the rules we wouldn't have any probs.

i meant for the ph number with the license.... you cant call a DL and there is no phone num on the DL.... not everyone can be searched in the white pages... specially a minor. itd only take a sec to write it down just in case...

I say take it one step further. Take keys too!. That's what the dirt dawgs do. If you need a house transponder, they need your keys. Simple and effective.

They may miss there liscense and get the transponder returned quicker, but they can't even leave without their car keys Smile.

Did you hitch up your rc and pitbox to your bicycle and ride there? Doubt it. They can take the keys of the person you hitched a ride with.

you dont race if they dont get keys. Simple and effective.

LOL what a fiasco, I can see a huge problem exchanging keys between races and the wait for a transponder will extend from a few minutes to much longer.

lol not for every heat silly.

LOL, you exchange keys for the ability to use the house transponders at the beginning of the day. When you're ready to leave, they do a quick double check to make sure the one that was assigned to you (on your last race) is where it belongs and you get your keys back Smile.
