Tex Wrote:If you are racing on a competative level you should have a P/T period.

Why? Does it make you a better driver? I think the transponders at the track work just fine for me, and I have a family and other hobbies to spend my $ on. So, why should I purchase something that is provided for me already? I've already been told up top that if you have one you should get special treatment. I'm curious to hear your reasons.

That's understandable, but not what I'm looking to do here. I do not - repeat - DO NOT want to undermine what I see as one of the best R/C facilities I have ever seen. It's the reason that I got back into racing after taking off since my daughter was born 5 years ago. I enjoy racing just as much if not more than ever, and do not wish to give it up again. But, when I see something that just doesn't seem fair, I stand up and try to offer solutions that will benefit everyone involved.

i think what tex is refuring to is that a loaner has ben known to have
glitches in the system,aka- people not returning in time, not registering on the line,or even falling off the vehicle.
getting a personal for the investment has alot of benifits.
which some people who may take racing more serious worth the money
i personaly race for the fun of it. but got a personal trans to eliminate
the above problems, for me thats fine

All I know is that I have raced for almost 20 years, and I know for a fact that a P/T will not make me any more competitive. I have no problem with the way things worked and would continue to work. If I didn't have other obligations, and planned on racing more often, I probably would buy one. However, as it stands now, I don't see the reason to spend the extra $$$.

I just like to eliminate any worries I can. I have enough to concentrate on when I go out to race. I think I'm going to start wearing ear plugs, I think it would be easier without all the noise.

Don't make it a fee. Make it a $10 deposit. If they want their $10 back they turn in the transponder...

Well I will start at the top. it's a deposit, not a rental fee. and a driver liscense which will be returned when you done for the night. unless you don't return it and when I'll keep the 5 for the inconvenice you cost us. and I'll have your liscense so I can get a hold of you. House transponders must be charged for 30 hours before we use them, so bringing them back the next race day that transponder can not be use that weekend. someone said they didn't see new transponders in the rack. Better look again. we have five new transponders and we are still missing two which we hope will be returned soon. both out of state. House transponders cost a lot more then personals. why should we have to pay for new one when we do not use them. some one who races one or two times a month will miss their liscense before they find they have a transponder. With the way personals are going. I see NO tracks with house transponders. It will be personals only.

Seems like a fine idea. I would HATE a price hike for everyone...I can barely afford to go monthly at $15...That's why I saved up and got a p/t. IDK I think we still need to talk to scott and get a prepaid card for the track in the works.

I think a pre-paid card would be cool. However... the task at hand. I see that being a fine solution and by no means unreasonable. If you don't have $5 that you can hand them to allow you to use a transponder knowing that you will get the money back if you are responsible then this is not the hobby you should be in. I bought a PT before I even started racing. It is still the best investment.

prepaid, like you get 10 race days but you pay for 9 upfront. Just a card that the race director can punch holes in as you use each day of racing.

999, easability, I think a P/T would be mandatory equipment if your a serious racer just for the fact it makes it <insert easy button here>.

Not only have I been late for heats and races due to waiting on other racers with loaners but I've ran whole race days where the loaners didn't work and I wasted all my time and money. This is not to mention the times it has fell out of the vehicle mid race.

My P/T was the best thing I've ever purchased in the hobby and spektrum will be next. Two great things that make your day go soooo much easier.

If you want to continue to use loaners then go ahead and deal with all the hassels, it's your time and money, not mine. If you have never owned a P/T then you haven't seen the light, I don't care how much you imagined using one. Until you do you can't say how much time you would save or how loaners aren't that bad. You don't know.

maybe have em leave a shoe liek the bowling alley.... LOL

Some of you guys are funny!!!! YOU Should just sit back and enjoy the best facility in the area and maybe the country. Bernie, John and the rest of the crew have their hands full with other things than having to worry about house transponders. Alot of tracks are going the way of mandatory PT's, and I dont blame them because of the hassle house transponders create.

I think alot of people need to think about if they want to race or just play on the track. If you are serious about racing then it only makes sense to get a PT. But if you are a basher maybe look at going just on the weeknight or Sat morning practice, where you dont need a transponder.

Also Bernie said you get it back after you return it, so how is it costing you anything?????

Some people just want to complain and you have that right, just remember LH's crew is doing the best they can, and with hundreds of racers racing over a weekend you just cant make everyone happy.

So in closing if you want to race buy a pt, or fork over the $5 deposit and live with it. If you cant swing $5 maybe you shouldnt be in this hobby. Because lets face it we all know this hobby is a money pit.

i think its fair. do you have any idea how much a rack of 10-20 ht's cost? IIRC, i thought they were in the 200 dollar range.... makes PT's a drop in the bucket. i think there should be a extra charge for use of a HT. you pay for shoues at a bowling alley, skates at a rink.... yea you give them back, but they all have to be replaced at some point and they wernt free when the place bought them. like most said.... untill you have one... you have NO idea how nice it is. and IT CAN make you more competitive. how? by not wasting time waiting for it so you can be warmed up and out there gettin in your 2-3 minutes before your heat starts.

95 bux is hard to swallow, BUT i do understand about not racing everyweekend, the good news is you can resell it for 90% of what you paid for it if your not the year round racer.

$89 direct from amb. Their site doesn't even list the rechargeable house units any more, and it used to. So maybe the loaner system is on it's way out, like the buggy whip. In future, when all the loaners are dead, a personal transponder will be needed to race, just like a car, fuel, and tires.

And George, when you race, it becomes a Sport. The hobby part ends.
