ok here is my prob i keep burning out glow plugs the car runs at 210-220 deg and runs great but when i shut it off and then go back to start it the glow plug is blown besides the high end needle could it be that the low end needle is too lean? or the other needle by the pull slide on the carb ? its driving me crazy and at 10.00 per plug its getting exp if you guys have any idea's please let me know
Put both shims under the head. It comes with one in the motor, and one extra in the box.
what do the plugs look like? are the coils compressed or just not lighting? if your a little too lean u can burn a plug out by running it out of fuel
use os p3 plugs and ya if your lean your going to go thru plugs. dont trust temp guns they will all read diff. the motor should blow a little smoke, when you let off or come to a stop it should come to an idle. get the motor up to temp richen the top if you seelots of smoke and the car slows its too rich. lean the top to get top speed out of it but with the os when you start to go too lean the motor will slow before it lean bogs. now adjust the low end after making a pass let off and let the car sit for 10 seconds. the car should come to an idle right away and it should keep the same rpm for about 6 seconds. now punch it and you should hear a small bog with some smoke but it should take off. you can also pinch the fuel line near the high speed needle and the rpm should take like 3 seconds before the rpm increases. always error to the rich side the os will run great even on the rich side and the motor will last longer. if your racing the motor will have more than enough power
good call ponch the motor comes setup for 20 % to run 30% put the extra shim in.
the motor isnt setup for 20 out of the box, alot of guys dont run the extra shim; its setup right in the middle for like 25% nitro like RB's
the plugs dont look burned at all they just dont glow . i do have both shims in the head . when i go off the line i see smoke and no bog but when im running full throttle i see very light smoke and the engine stays at about 220 what is the screw on the slide for? i did put a new plug in it today and adjusted it and seems to be running better . im also wondering if that glow plug ignitor on the starter box is just too much for the plug and burning them out today i used a small ignitor and had no problems
if all else fails i will pay someone to tune it right for me
the one on the side is the midrange, just leave it alone
ok cool thanks i wasnt sure but i did move that slightly it did seem to help
so i should stay with os p3 plugs i know thats what it says to use in the owners manual but it also says that thats a ultra hot plus wont that make my engine temp go way up ? the plug that i have in there now is a cold one
that motor is supposed to like the P3's the best, but a colder plug will be easier to tune, throw an OD97T in there or a P4
ok cool thanks i will try those plugs spending 10.00 each on plugs really sucks do they make a button head that will take reg plugs and not turbo?
no but OD plugs are about half the price of the OS ones. Turbo plugs are better and will last longer once u get ur tune right
ok i will look for those i usally go to al's but they only carry novarossi and rb turbo plugs im gonna call hobytown see if they carry them
als usually has Od thats where i get mine
the os guys say put the extra shim in for the 30% and always use os p3 plugs
but thats just the experts and how many motors did we blow at peoria?Big Grin
you put the extra shim in to tame the bitch down, ask sonny o what plug he runs in his OD97, cooler plugs make life easier. I think it was 3 motors?
yes the extra shim will tame it down by reducing the compression and keep the motor from predetonation in warm weather.and sonny is not the expert on os motors. and how many motors have you blown? when you can run a motor for two years ill listenConfusedmash:
i used to be able to run them forever, then i started running a you know what motor....

your too hard on those engines mike, when you warm them up you just let the RPM's climb higher and higher, you wonder why those motors dont run right
ya ur right kevin Rolleyes
mikes not the problem. them motors suck
allan42r Wrote:mikes not the problem. them motors suck

yeah they suck, i guess there is no other way to warm those engines up, but im sure when your pinning it to warm it up that destroys the motor
please he's not pinning it if ya wanna run with men ya cant worry about the motor. drive it like ya stole it
