If the radio is not syth, I'd say its a great idea bringing spare crystals with you. Last you want is not being able to run because you have one channel and someone else is running the same one.

I'm sure synthesized radios are expensive right?

You can find a JR XS3 for around $200 new at the hobby shop, the pro will put you back $250. Extra Rx's are around $70 each. When I first got into the hobby, I thought that was a lot for a radio, but now that I see the benefits, it was a small price to pay. The GREAT thing about a higer end radio, besides being synthesized, is that all the settings are kept digitally. No more worrying about the trim dial getting bumped of setting, and they have multiple model memory (XS3 has 6 model, XS3 pro has 10) so the settings for each car you run off the radio are stored seperately in the radio.

Look into the new radio from Spektrum. Based of the JR 3-channel radios. You wont have to worry about freq conflicts with that.

I'd say check out the new spektrum brand radio also. Seems like a killer deal.
