I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but I do this every once and a while and it runs faster.

Right click on internet explorer. Go to properties. Hit delete cookies and delete files. I also hit clear history.

to defrag the computer first you need to shut down every program and only run windows. Close all internet pages, instant messaging programs, antivirus stuff. Everything but windows. Then go to start, programs, accessories, system tools, disk defragmenter. It might take a few hours so its best to do right before you go to bed. Also do whats mentioned above and clear your internet cookies. Beware tho this clears out all your passwords for forums so be sure you know all your passwords before doing this.

Yeah, make sure you don't have spyware or a virus, run the Anti programs spyware can slow computers down alot. If you need a anti virus, microsoft has a free one on their home page, best one i have had.

Defraging may help some, but I'm betting it won't help nearly as much as a good spyware/virus checker.

Right there it says "Brief Description
Windows Defender (Beta 2) is a free program that helps you stay productive by protecting your computer against pop-ups, slow performance and security threats caused by spyware and other potentially unwanted software.''
