Carbon fiber
#1
I remember reading somewhere that it is a good idea to add some thing to the edges of a carbon fiver chassis, but I can't remeber what I read. Any ideas on would work best to protect the edges from splintering?

I don't think so. I thought is was a sort of adhesive that kind of dissolved the edges and made them into one piece. Like it kind of fused them. I can't remember for sure though...

Regular thin CA tire glue is what you use. It seals the edges of the parts so they dont splinter or seperate. Just run a bead of glue down the edge of the carbon fiber and then use a Q-tip to spread it evenly before it dries.

I did it to all my carbon fiber parts and they are holding up great. Smile

ur supposed to run a light bead of CA glue around the edges of ur CF stuff so that it does not split makes it more rigid also.

CF does not flex hardly at all its stronger than alot of Alum. parts but more rigid

Yeah... the only time it hasn't was when I had one small tube to do all 4 wheels and tires. Each inner and outer bead got only 4 drops. It was just temporary and still held pretty well. When I glue them like I do with CA it holds fine. Since my dad can get super glue free from work it ends up cheaper too... :-)

Cool thanks, I just bought a new bottle of CA the otherday. So I'll have to get to that.

I read somewhere that filing the edges of CF will help prevent splitting.

ya if it cracks on the edge or chips then its really likely that it will crack under less pressure so maybe like some fuel tubing slit open and around the edge? so it has like a padded edge..iono

when i ran pan car, we sanded the edges, and some times skimmed the edges at a angle so there wasnt a sharp edge. then glued.

I run a Vantage CF chassis on my Revo that has a few spots that are Dremmelled and I use no CA or anything else. I've found no need to protect this chassis or the custom CNC'd tank/battery trays that I manufacture and sell to many Pro racers. There's no delamination at all. Put CA on the edges if you're looking for something to do. It's just another RC idiosyncracy IMO.

I heard you can also try using expoxy, but I haven't tried personally.
