car audio help wanted

For a box building program look up WinISD Pro on google. Great program that can let you tune every paramater of the box. (Size, port number and size, frequency response, everything.)

To run a quality interior sound system you want to run a mono block class D amp to a single sub. (The single sub is my opinion. I had better luck with one very nice sub than 2 slightly lower quality ones.) And then a 4 channel amp to your interior speakers. This allows you to split power not only side to side as with a 2 channel (or front to rear) but isolate every corner individually. Power can be run from the battery to a grounded distribution block (capacitors are optional but usually not necessary) and then to each amp. (Which should also be grounded.) The RCA outs on the back of the head unit will go to the class D amp for the sub and each head unit has slightly different outputs for the speakers.

I can reccomend several amps, speakers, subs, etc. but without knowing a price range I could be way off base and/or just wasting my time. Wait before you buy. That is the important thing. Don't see 1600 watts for $150 and just buy it. You are better off with a lower wattage quality amp, than a higher wattage cheap amp. Let us know what kind of money you are looking to spend on this system, and then we can go from there.

Also, reguarding box building, if you can do it, do it. A properly built custom box will make the sub much more responsive and sound infinitely better than a pre-fab box from any store. However, if you cannot build the box a nice custom box can easily run you near $200. If you want I could even mess around with the program one night and get some dimensions for you. (You need to know the sub and amp combo first.)

One last note on boxes..... decide what music you listen too most, and what kind of room you have. A sealed box will be smaller than a ported box, but it will take a more powerful amp to get the sub to move to full excursion in a sealed box than in a ported box. (It will also hit a little bit clearer.) A ported box is larger and will usually be a few dB louder. It does however have a little less responsiveness and the sub may sound "muddy" at times.

Let me know what else I can help with. :-)
