All,
SCRC (Suburban Chicago Rock Crawlers) will be having a meeting March 8 2008 1pm @ HobbyTown USA Naperville.
Things on the agenda include:
Summer Comp scouting
Summer Comp Buy-in
Comp Distance (how far will you drive)
Judging/Scoring workshop
I would also like to start discussing contacting other area (midwestern) clubs about possibly holding a LARGE summer comp @ Badlands in Attica In.
The indoor course will be mostly open after the meeting. We will be modifying a section of the concrete to hopefully add more area to have comps on without actually expanding the course.
Look forward to seeing all the active members at the meeting and hopefully see some new faces. Dont forget, the only way to get signed up for club benifits is to come to a meeting.

I will be out of town on a work trip, but my take on a few of the topics that can easily be answered:
1. Distance willing to drive: This time of year (COLD & SNOW & Unknown road conditions)....maybe 90 minutes is my maximum. In the nicer months, I would be willing to drive a few hours each way.
2. Comp Buy-in: Sounds reasonable. If it ends up that it puts prizes in people's hands....even better.
Those are the parts that I can contribute to without being at the meeting. I do intend to be back in town for the RC HOBBIES comp. Also, anything on the agenda about setting a wrenching day??

1. Distance to drive is for the summer series, I think we can all agree in the winter we want to go as short as possible.
2. We discussed in our first meeting that most of the money would go to prizes. A little would be needed for buying supplies and permits if needed.
Tech Day (wrench day) is on the agenda, it was on the email I sent... is everyone getting the emails?

We have some good news to discuss @ the meeting so I hope to see as many members there as possible... Also, I took yesterday off work and worked on reconstructing a portion of the course, its not done but, we now have some more verticle climbs and more concrete area along with a place to add a little bit of water.

Buy in for the summer goes as follows
$5 per comp (1st class), an extra $2.50 for 2nd class (2.2 and super)
All money will go towards permits for comps, building suppilies, prizes etc.
Comp distance... we figured a couple hours max (2) and if need-be or possible we could carpool.
Judging/scoring.... well
touch 10=somebody touched the vehicle
gate 10=tennis ball was touched
rollover 5=car must be rolled back onto wheels
etc according to the 08 rules
we are looking at getting shirts made.
different color shirts should be available, but a minimum quantity of 5/color will be req'd.
we are looking for someone to make stickers
rc4wd parts will be available at naperville hobbytown, call in your orders in the next 2-3 days and it will be on the order (I think)

Check with chad about the stickers. He's got some crazy skills. Maybe tune can still do them too.

Here's the full "official" newsletter if anyone didn't get it;
8 members attended the actual meeting (several more were there for bashing after)
Comp #4 @ HobbyTown Naperville will be April 5 2008 1pm
Helping LHR design their course was discussed (see below)
Tech/Wrench day will be open to the public and "presented by SCRC" this will be a day for everyone to bring their Crawlers in to work on them/tune them and get advice. March 29 2008 Hobbytown USA Naperville 11am.
Assistant Judges for the next 2 comps:
Comp #3 (March 15) Jeff S Matt G
Comp #4 (April 5) Jeff S Bob P
Summer comp scouting was discussed, it was brought up that if the location is at a park we need to check with Rangers/city ahead of time to make sure its ok and to make sure if we need a permit. It was generally agreed upon to try to keep comps within a 2hr windo of the meeting location. We are also discussing carpooling to save gas.
Summer Comp Series "Buy-In" was discussed/voted on. It was decided that their would be a $5 entry fee for 1 class $7.50 if you are entering 2 classes. Money raised would go to permits for locations and to buying year end prizes.
The idea of Shirts/Hats/Stickers was discussed. Most places for T-shirts require a 25 piece min order with 5 of each color min. Prices ranged from $8.50-$10 each. We are looking around for lower pirces locally. We are currently looking for a place to have stickers printed.
There was also discussion/reminder that HobbyTown USA give SCRC members a 10% discount. This Discount INCLUDES rc4wd parts. As a riminder, you must attend a club meeting/work day to signup for the discount.
Leisure Hours Raceway:
LHR recently contacted us to help them design a crawling course for their facility near Joliet IL. 3 Members (Jeff S, Matt G, Matt P) met with Bernie today (Mar 9). We looked over the area and discussed plans. The area they are starting with is approx 35' across and approx 5' tall with the possibility of a large expansion if things go well. The plans we discussed would be to dig out/shape the hill side into climbs, valleys, shelfs etc. Then lay a coating of 1"-2" of concrete over the area along with insetting some large rocks/boulders into the hillside. We would then use the large amount of rocks they have available along with possibly some concrete field tile (tunnels) on the flat area to expand the crawling area. (They have an endloader available for moving the rocks). LHR is a RadioControl Raceway and thus they get all of their money from racing therefore, they are planning to charge a fee for comps. At this point howev er, practice will be free as long as you have a GSM radio. Also, if the club helps with the construction of the course we are negotiating for a couple of free dates hosted by the club. The dates they charge would not be club hosted events. They are looking to start construction as soon as the ground thaws and will stay in touch with us.
