I'd love to see pics of Eric's car if he's willing to share!

Its true....one of these days I need to take someone daring enough for the ride...so they can run video of it, then I'll have proof Smile

Here are some pics you asked for.....

.
My best 1/4 mile run to date Smile
.
Ill run the camera!!!!
I'm with czech!!! 130 in a car is my max!

One more arguement(I know I said I was done!)

Quote:It should be emphasized here that the drag equation is an approximation, and does not necessarily give a close approximation in every instance. Thus one should be careful when making assumptions using these equations.

Why does a 3 speed savage go faster than a 2 speed savage with the same motor?

Why does a 3 speed savage go faster than a 2 speed savage with the same motor?
Because the engine has the power to push it, the drag via aerodynamics or driveline hasnt effected it yet, who knows when that would happen on a Savage though.

Unlike my Dakota R/T, at 140mph it just quit pulling even though I still had 500rpm left to go till redline, thats when the aerodynamics came into play and the engine didnt have the power to push it to redline Wink
.....but if I had another gear to get my engine back into its power band around 3000 -4500rpm, who knows how much faster it could have gone.
Its just that around 4800rpm the power started to drop off and combined with the aero drag, it didnt have the power to go faster.

So....again....it has to do with many variables
squirrel Wrote:Why does a 3 speed savage go faster than a 2 speed savage with the same motor?

Because it runs out of rpm (gearing) before air drag defeats avaliable HP to push thru it.
and its a 12lb truck with 4 hp lol
I would definitely volunteer to run the camera. I would love to get a ride in it period. The fastest I have ever gone in a car is 144. I imagine there is a big difference between that and 170+. I can't wait to be able to build a car like that..... damn college. LoL
lol fastest ive done was about 110 i cant even imagine what it would be like to do 170!
ive done a 9 second nitrous pass in the passenger seat of a 68 camaro. now thats a ride that just leaves you smiling from ear to ear.
We hit 90 in a mini van once....haha

beatcha on my way home from the track this past Sunday.:p: Gabe saw my van. LOL
Ha, I think the fastest I ever was, was in the towtruck going to an accident, about 110.
I have been in a 9 second car.... but not running it out over 120 mph. We got on the highway.... hit the gas, spun the tires, let of, and we were doing 100 mph. I was shocked. Nothing like a nova with a very well built BB. That thing gave you chills sitting in it at idle.
Not quite squirrel, you continue on insisting that with more gears any car will reach a higher top speed. Not true. At some point an engine will simply not have enough power to reach a higher top speed no matter how you gear it.

If your theory was true then i could get on a 50speed huffy and go 200mph simply by changing the gearing.
i got from the track to the end of patterson road in 3 min.

idk the fastesti ever got was i was on the high way and my speedo only goes to 90 and it was all the way against the pin
good thing u aint got a tach
Travis, was that our record or did you beat it? I remember it was that or something near it...
i have a tach
yeay it was it matt and it wasnt to safe Big Grin it was raining....

You are right.... Squirrel is wrong. He has the idea, kind of..... but in the end you are right.
Not more gears just a lower final ratio...

Horsepower DOES increase/affect top end but gearing/final drive ratio will have a much bigger impact than even a 100 hp increase...
It depends what we are talking about. Set HP and Torque limits. Set distance limits. There are ton's of unrealistic variables that we keep including.

Well if I had 50 horsepower, and you had 500, but I had 467 miles of open road and 73 gears then I could go faster. It doesn't work that way. Lets deal with real life, real cars, and real parts.
man you would get tired shifting through all thos gears
yeah 50 hours later you're halfway thru the gears hahaa, and you haven't seen the other guy since he passed you about 49 hours and 55 minutes ago...
No kidding. I'll grab a land with the 57 gear 50-hp car any day. LoL He would spend more time in between gears than in gear.
