DDRC,
We all knew RC was an hobby that would drain the bank accounts.
But who knew we would need RCAA (radio control addicts anonymous) someday?

I've been watching you buggy guys and I've noticed that no one ever really passes anyone on the long straights. I'm starting to believe that a strong bottom end is more important than blazing high end speed. The engine with the punch to launch the buggy from corner to corner seems to be the one that wins the race.

For the most part, Satoch, you are right. On a track, Top end motors, and bottom end motors pretty much equal themselves out. For example, the Sirio Kanai has it's powerband higher in the RPM range, I forget what Six was running in his Kyosho. For the first half of the straight, he was pulling up on me, once we got half way, I started pulling away. In general, higher torque is better, because it "slingshots" you out of a turn, but on a BIG, FAST track, the higher speed motors pay off.

A GOOD buggy guy can match the best pipe and gearing to bring the most out of a motor, but most of us have the "higher top end, or better torque" dilemma. Which is better for what kind of track....
