Need to De-ano to change color?
#1
I have this revo chassis here and before I put it back on. I want to de-ano it and change the color. I doubt I need to de-ano it if I am just going to spray it. So questions are..

Do I need to de-ano the chassis before I spray(just want to be sure).

Would a paint job hold up(thinking something along the lines of a engine block paint). I dont care about areas that will have parts bolted to it,no one will see it unless I take it apart.
Or should I just get it done without using paint?

de ano it with oven cleaner, and engine block paint will hold up the best. i think...

if u know someone who can glass bead it that would be best. I would go with another anodizing as opposed to paint, u never know what nitro fuel will do to the paint lol

There are a couple of tutorials on the net about how to anodize your own stuff. 12v car battery, some acid, and a some dye and you can plate your own stuff. But it ain't something you can do in your house. Best in a garage, a well ventilated garage.

De anodizing will remove the protective plating and render the parts more prone to corrosion. But for R/C cars it probably does not matter. Ace hardware sells greased lightning - a cleaner that will take off anodizing better than anything. Oven cleaner works too, but is smelly and dulls the alum. If you just want a new color, prime and paint it. Test the paint on something else with some nitro fuel to be sure it will hold up.

Once you de-ano it, there is a company that a know of that anodizes just r/c parts and paints r/c bodies. http://www.mrpaintin.com . The guy who does the anodizing says it will be around 40 dollars for the chassis, and they have a bunch of different colors that you can use.

I just sprayed it. Doesnt matter how well it holds up once I thought about it. I have been thinking about getting the 3.3 chassis or something along those lines. So this will do for now. Besides, besides whatever is covered with parts,I doubt many other places will show if something happens. And plenty of stuff protecting the bottom. But I will keep that ano stuff in mind when I go out and upgrade.

I have also heard of greased lightning. Didnt have time to go out and get that or else I would have used that.

If the topic comes up again either get it re-anodized at mrpainting, jacobe anodizing (Chicago Area) or go for powdercoating. Most any color is available and to my knowledge it's fuel proof.

No camera to take pictures LOL. It wont hold up to the parts that rub it. But I am not to worried for now. But it does look decent.
