I walk down the stairs and shut my car off and then immediatly bring my controller and car back to the pit room by my spot. Then I set it down on the table and immediatly get back out to marshal. Theres nothing wrong with bringing your stuff back to the pits as long as you only drop and go. I only do this to try and leave room for the next guys trying to get there cars started and going.

And Bernie nobody is complaining about the announcing. The announcing is awesome at your track. What they were trying to say is they dont like hearing them announcing for marshals for the next 5 minutes. Its not LHR fault for the marshaling problem. Like you said its a problem at all the tracks. Drivers should have the courtesy and respect to finish a tank of fuel and then go marshal for a tank of fuel. I think the only FAIR way to settle this is not to marshal for the guys who dont marshal. The way i do my marshing for practice is once i run out of fuel I watch for somebody who is just getting on the stand and marshal untill he runs out of fuel. That way im marshalling just as long as I was driving.

Ryan, Leisure race day procedure says... end your race, put your car on the table by the track, and go marshall. Even the one minute it takes to go to the pit room adds up to a longer day and that's why they put the tables by the track.

It's the same for everyone. Why do you have to think it's Ok for you to do it differently?

And it's simple for marshalling. Drive a tank marshall a tank. Period. Wear a watch. If your tank runs 8 minutes..marshall 8 minutes. If your truck runs 18 minutes on a tank, marshall for 18 minutes. I can't understand the confusion?

It's when people try to rationalize their nonconforming behavior that the system breaks down, because then everyone does it that way.

It's like running yellow lights. Eventually everyone it running red lights....It becomes the norm. It doesn't make it right, except in the minds of those doing it.

Like my post at LHR forum, this is my last post on this subject.........

I understand the comment that mich made about taking it back to the pits real quick. However, mich, that no longer applies because they added impound tables since the last time you came. They put 2 tables against the wall between the driverstand stairs and door so that racers have a place to put their radio and truck while they go out and marshall.

its ok for me to do it differently because I marshal after every time I run. That one minute to put my truck back wasnt hurting anybody. Its takes the drivers a minute to get there cars started and on the track by the time I shut mine down and drop it off. I will do it how I please unless the track has a new method for doing it which they do according to Tune.

the new rules were a great improvement!! normaly me and newguy are the first ones there, ill marshal for about 20 min. then go and run my truck. then when it starts getting bussy ill go back and marshal some more. but i have seen guys run a tank, go into the pits and refuel and go back out. it just seems more important for them to practice and forget about the people around them. but i havnt gotten hit in the eye with mud lately:beer:

Sorry but had to add my .02 cents. I come to watch, not race but watch and enen I marshall for a few races when they are short on marshalls or what ever. Don't see why the people racing have such a rough time playing by the rules. Can't we all just get along????????????

I think of it like this. Marshalling is like going to the doctor for a shot in the arm or being asked to take bad tasting medicine. Just do it and get it over with.

I have yet to race or practice at the new track and have 30 minutes of marshalling under my belt already.

Quote:I think if you crash alot marshal alot, if you don't hardly need to be marshalled then you don't need to marshal as much. Give and take equally,

In a sense, I see what Tex means by this quote, but there are a lot of guys out there that think they are "Too good" to marshall. If you go by that theory, you're going to have guys say "I only flipped once, and I flipped a car, so it's even." That just adds to the problems. The new practice rules have helped out quite a bit, but of course it'll never be perfect. I usually try to pick a car or truck that is just starting a run as I go out to marshall, and when I see that vehicle come in from a full run (I watch to make sure it isn't just a quick needle adjustment), I do a quick check that there are no wrecks, and go in to relax or run again.

Everyone just has to remember, PRACTICE nights should be used to practice your driving AND marshalling. Too many times, in a race, I've seen the Good drivers, that rarely marshall durring practice making the worst mistakes. (Putting trucks/cars down backwards, stepping in front of a car they just marshalled, watching their friend race instead of their corner, etc.) I know I have made my mistakes in marshalling, mostly due to seeing 3-4 cars coming to a rough section, and not noticing the one right behind me, but I do try to do my best.

This past Sunday, during practice, I put a truck backwards on the track. I was used to the old layout because it was by the two table tops.

All you can do is your best. If the driver doesnt like how he got marshalled then he shouldnt have crashed. If your in a spot were just the pipe seperates the 2 parts of the track and your not sure what lane he was in just hold up the truck and im sure the driver will be yelling at you to which lane he was in.

Some crashes can't be avoided, especially when being hacked. I agree, a person shouldn't rely on a marshall to keep their lap times down, only crash-free driving can do that, but what I was pointing out, is the worst mistakes made when marshalling are done by the guys who don't marshall during practice.

I've also found myself guilty of "remembering" the cars of the guys who don't marshall, and letting them wait it out while I marshall someone elses car... Rolleyes
