Miami Dolphins linebacker Joey Porter was accuesed of punching Cincinatti Bengals offensive lineman Levi Jones after police said the players exchanged trash talk at the blackjack table in a casino in Las Vegas.
Porter was issued a summons on a misdemeanor battery charge after the altercation Sunday, which began in the Palms hotel-casino, Las Vegas Police Officer Martin Wright said.
"They went outside," Wright said Monday. "In the valet area, one struck the other, causing a small laceration above the eye."
Porter might face up to a year in jail and a $1000 fine, Wright said, but the date of the court appearance wasn't available.
Porter, a 6-3 250-pounder, left the Pittsburgh Steelers after eight seanson and signed a five-year $32 million deal with the Dolphins this month. Jones a 6-5, 307-pounder missed much of last season with a knee injury.
"It seems they go against each other on the field and here they take it into the public,"Wright said.
