I had 2 ferrets at one point. They are fun but they need constant upkeep and they live for about 15 years. So be prepared to take care of it for a while, lol. One nice thing though is that you can usually take them back to the pet store and they will resell it for you. But if they dont there are NO KILL ferret shelters that will take them in and get them adopted out rather then putting them down. We had to take ours to the shelter. They were adopted out as a pair 2 weeks later.
As far as the oder goes, it should not smell that bad. They do have a bit of a musky smell to them but I have never seen, or smeeled one that really stunk.
All commercially sold ferrets are "fixed". It is against the law for anyone to buy or sell non-"fixed" ferrets, only liscenced dealers are allowed to do so, and your only allowed to buy a non-"fixed" ferret if your a liscenced breeder.
