thanks guys, the reason for the strike is a hand full of contractors (mainly a big conglomerate that owns 3 companies) is trying to basically destroy the apprenticeship program by taking away 5% pay, a new time line, no pay in to the retirement fund, and no insurance for the first 2 years. they already make $425,000 a year on new apprentices, but that isnt enough.

It's all about money, and it's disgusting how they can rape the people that make them the cash, just to make more...so wrong. the world is wrong.

that is exactly it. the companies that are doing this employ 50+ apprentices each of varying years. thats roughly 15-21 million dollars they make off of them(by charging $100+ an hour for them, but they only cost around $32 an hour after pension pay in and health and welfare funds)

I've never understood what the point of massive profit is...nobody is spending it really..it's just sitting in a bank account. If I had a successful business I would spend it all on advancing my equipment and profit sharing my employees. and maybe a corvette for myself...but that's my biggest gripe with massive profits like that...I don't get it and i don't think I ever will

there will be pickets everywhere. there is a small list of jobs that have a picket clause in there contracts that cant be touched. but others will be. mostly the big jobs that can have the biggest effect.

Every bit of support is appreciated. I know it's going to be a hard time for a lot of the members, some may feel it a little more than others. Hopefully it will only take a couple days for the impact of the work shortage to pressure the Big companies into reaching an agreement.

WTF are you talking about. you don't understand profit! That is the dumbest thing I have heard in a long time. You do know that's the point of a business, right. All of you talk like its the business owners fault. blame the union for driving up the cost of EVERY thing you buy. All you union people have it made. you get a brake every 5 minutes a 4 hour lunch and every Holiday off. You cant even get fired if you fuck some thing up, you dont even have to do a good job and you get a raise every year. Stop crying and go to work.

WOW!!! What an ASS.

Maybe you're right. We should all be happy, just to have the opportunity to kiss the corporate ass, be happy with putting in a 12 hour day, for pennies, while some pompous ASS sits there raking in all the money from our sweat and blood... People with your attitude are what is dragging this country down.

In J-Dub's post, he mentioned massive profit. Yes, a company grows on profit, but when that company is making a $20 million profit on employees, that should be enough. They already charge double the labor rate for a journeyman. For an apprentice, they charge the job the same amount, which by apprentice wages, is 4x the labor cost.

breaks every 5 min? try one 1/2 hour break and one 45min lunch. and yes you can get fired. we go threw school to learn mathematical calculations, jurisdictional laws, and national laws. we go to work every day, a lot of times out door in the rain, snow, and heat. our bodies take a huge beating. back in the day there was a unwritten rule, one man for each pipe size, if you were hanging 6" pipe you had six guys on it. now your lucky if you have two. a piece of 6" schedule 40 pipe is around 400lbs. put that on your shoulder, carry it up a 10' ladder and hang it. then tell me we make to much. then go on an inspection where you have to up hold the rules of the nfpa and deal with building owners that "dont see why we need this" then go on a call where a couple of heads put out a fire that would have destroyed buildings. we have to learn hydraulic calculations, square foot coverage for a variety of different hazard classifications. it isnt just righty tighty, lefty loosy. and it is insulting to me a 10 year journeyman for you to say that, when i know for a fact that at least one system i put in saved over 10 people from being killed in a fire. and hearing that systems that were installed by scabs that dont know what the fuck they are doing fail and buildings and lives are lost. but hey, im just a dumb ass construction worker, rite?

Lol... Probably a Scab. Gettin all pissy cause we are united and have rights. I'd rather have someone trained and qualified than some moron off the street for 1/4 the price. Do the job right once, and you won't pay for it 3-4 times...like if you half assed it...

My father has been a teamster for 25+ years, so i grew up eatin food union money bought... So i whole heartedly support union WORKERS.

BUT....

Unions are out of control in the city of chicago. "HEY!! You cant fucking plug in that Extention cord! your not a Union electrician!" I believe DENT guy is referring to the stereotypical lazy, sits on his ass in a lawn chair guido fuck suckin up 40+ dollars an hour!

By the way Pal... EVERYONE is asked to do more with less these days NOT just union workers. Everyone is being squezzed, expected to do more for less and faster! So i cant say as you tugged my heart strings too much with that. I am glad though that your strike is over.
Dont mess wit my sig Line tune!
