Think this is a scam?

Dear Seller,
I am interested in the immediate purchase of your item and will be make payment via cashier check/money order, my private shipping company will handle the shipping, but before payment will be made i need to be sure of who i am dealing with if you are going to be honest and sincere throughout the transaction. A certified cashiers check is cashable the same day, there is going to be an excess fund on the check ,the excess fund is meant for the private shipping company who will come to your place for pick up of the item, so shipping is not a problem, will you be able to transfer the excess fund to the shipping company the same day you recieve the check?. check would be sent to you so when you get payment you can easily cash it at any cashing point near you or deposit in your bank. You'll be sending excess fund to my shipper , which would be meant for shipping arrangement.if you agree, signify your interest by forwarding to me your Final Asking Price, Full Name & Contact Notice i want you to go and end the auction for me i would end it by my self but i dont know i to do it if u can do that for me i will adding $20 to your payment

That is SUCH a scam. You will cash the check just fine but it is fake. By that time you have given the guy the "extra cash" Problem is you are now on the hook for the entire thing! STAY AWAY.

Thats exactly what I was thinking!

Help Quick!!! - J-Dub - 06-20-2009

lol, only use pay pal.

J-Dub Wrote:lol, only use pay pal.

I second that. Only use Paypal, or GET THE MONEY in your hands FIRST. Thats the way it works with PayPal anyways. If the buyer doesn't like that, hes got other motives/objectives. IE: Taking your money.

For serious this is his response to me when I told him the deal sounded fishy!

"I told you in my previous mail that you shouldn't bother yourself about how the item will be shipped. I'll personally take care of that. I shipping it to my client in malaysia. And i'll be responsible for that with shipping company. So, don't bother yourself on that. Also i told you about the excess payment. I want you to get back to me now with your full mailing information so that i can forward it to my client to mail you the CHECK And i want you to promise me you'll only deduct the money for the item and westernunion the balance as soon as you receive it."

I love it when you get the email:

"I am interested in buying your (RC car) ......"

The item description is in brackets! The scammers are so obvious.

"Is your item in the ad still for sale?" No, I sold it years ago, that's why I listed it on Craigs to get a check from a scammer. LOL

About a year back, a guy (maybe on here?) had a running email conversation with one of these idiots that went for days! It was priceless.

I thought about keeping it going, up the price a little too, just to see if I could get him to follow along. But then decided I don't have the time for it

I can try to find the site. There was a guy who ran a computer store and was selling his old inventory on Craigslist. He had them pay cash to ship the stuff out and then pay the rest via check (or something like that). He used the cash to ship them boxes of rocks and garbage. When they got upset and demanded the computers (they were asus computers or something but the scammers kept saying anus) he carved anus into a bunch of broken ones and shipped those.

But seriously how does anyone not know that is a scam??

Beats the hell outta me, that one just screams scam.

Just go on Craigslist and read the "Beware of scams" post and the "we'll send you too much money" one is right there. Banks claim no liability for you depositing a bogus check and withdrawing funds against it. If you think it's real, take their fake check, put it in your bank and wait 10 weeks. If after that it hasn't bounced....it's not a scam.

Help Quick!!! - squirrel - 06-25-2009

My problem is how do they get their hands on bogus money orders? I know people that work at banks and won't hook it up for a cut of the profits (purely kidding). How is it possible. I know my cousin got a bogus one when he was selling his katana(sport bike, not sword). But don't you have to give them the money for it right there at the bank credit union, or currency exchange?

Help Quick!!! - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 06-25-2009

Forgeries. These crooks are good!

Help Quick!!! - FreeRideFrosty - 06-26-2009

Counterfeit. It's not like they walk into a bank, whisper to the clerk, and all is good. Just like people counterfeit money they do checks and money orders as well. They are actually easier because there is less detail and you can write them for any amount.

True true, I knew it was a scam as soon as I read it. Guess I should change the add to cash only, local pick up.

All I wanna do is sell the damn losi! Why is it so hard!

Help Quick!!! - FreeRideFrosty - 06-27-2009

If you knew it was a scam you wouldn't have started a thread asking about it, emailed him, questioned anything period. Haha Craigslist is supposed to be cash only and local pick up only. That is how you know it's a scam.
