SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Jeep_Guy - 03-22-2008

The new body turned out OK. LOL. I am not much of a painter....gotta refine that skill, but the body is not a total embarassment. Might post a pic before Wrench Day....gotta find the camera.

In terms of what else I could add....well....I upped the steering servo to a 200oz, and added aluminum C's and Knuckles to support the added servo torque. I also added a simple small little aluminum servo arm for that steering.

I am looking forward to the comp and Wrench Day, but I did NOT like the 1+ hour washing the red off of my tires after practice today. I got it all off. PALMOLIVE DISH SOAP took it off....and now the M3 compound is ULTRA tacky. The new steering servo was definitely nice. 30% more power....NICE.

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Ponch - 03-22-2008

Dang Josh.... LMK when you're heading down to practice, I woulda came today had I known.

On another note.... I got my HOME MADE dig to work in all three positions! 4wd, front wd, front w/dig! Very happy.

Josh (or everyone for that matter)

Found an easy way to get the red off last night.

Take the tires off your rims.

Put in sink.

Put a huge squirt of dish soap in there with the tires and fill with scolding hot water till the tires are submerged completely.

Let sit for 15-30 minutes.

Get in there, rub the tires a little bit and rinse off. The red will be gone.

I don't know if it had anything to do with the soap I used, but it was Ivory Ultra.

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - J-Dub - 03-23-2008

Why did they turn red...?

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - AddictedtoNITRO - 03-23-2008

concrete dye got a little overboard lol

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Jeep_Guy - 03-23-2008

Matt,
That is about what I did:

1. Plug wheel holes with tape.
2. Get running water warm/hot.
3. Get tires wet and squirt some Palmolive on the tires.
4. Scrub with old toothbrush
5. Rinse.

It all comes off. I think that the dish soap is mild enough to not damage anything. IF I was to remove the tires from the wheels, it would have taken even LONGER. 64 Screws to take them off......64 to put them back. I guess that it is the price to play.

I really need to find the wife's camera to post the "new look". This new body is sharp....if only I had better painting skills.

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Ponch - 03-23-2008

What body did you get?

I had the tires off the rims anyway, so I didn't have to deal w/ screws..but 64 dang lol.

I have 48 with the stock rims I think.

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - BJoe - 03-23-2008

You guys took that much effort to get the red off? I just drove my WK in the snow.........................................

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Jeep_Guy - 03-23-2008

Yeah.....the MSD rims run 64 screws per set. It takes a while.

Put a Proline Helios on this time. Painted Metallic Black & Metallic Silver. I need to learn to use the liquid mask. The tape was a bit prone to bleeds. IF this was a buggy or monster truck, I would be more concerned, but this one is gonna take a beating, so the flaws are not killing me.

Just finished the little tweak of new AL servo arms on both the dig and the steering. ALSO fixed my ESC programming. I was rolling backwards out of throttle...the brake was not working correctly. A few profile resets on the ESC, and the brakes are back. That should keep me from fiddling on the radio side.

I am looking forward to Saturday....get to fine tune the small changes. I was VERY happy with the results of the bigger changes yesterday. I even felt empowerd since the comp to build some custom brackets. The REIGN chassis really did not have nice places for body mounts...and no real material to drill into.....so I built brackets out of 1/8" aluminum stock. They almost look like they belong on this thing. YES....I actually built something.

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Jetboat - 03-23-2008

you guys cry too much about a little red dust, wait till we get outside and you have mud/clay dog... to deal with...Crawlers are meant to be dirty, its shows you have a good time!!!!! Big Grin

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - AddictedtoNITRO - 03-23-2008

Mud and clay ok Dog..... umm IDK about that lol I might have to take a reverse and go around that obstacle

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - bubbaracing - 03-23-2008

SCRC Comp #4 Naperville HT - Jeep_Guy - 03-24-2008
