Brushless at leisure??? - Notochord - 07-07-2005

Are brushless cars allowed at leisure, is there a class for them. because there are classes for them at ROAR races. and say if there wasnt then who would i be able to run with??? and i was thinking about getting this brushless system http://www.teamnovak.com/products/brushless/gtb_system/index.html
that motor has a 6.5 turn motor and a 5.5 turn motor and it can use brushed motors with no limit
http://www.teamnovak.com/products/brushless/ssplus_system/index.html

this one has more turn bl motors and i think you can only run 12 turn brushed motors

i have enough money to spend on the gtb system its just that is it that much better then the s5000 to spend the extra money ????

thanks i cant decide

I don't know anything about electric RC, but I have a question?

Is it a 6.5 turn motor or is it a six 1/2 turn motor? And what is the diff tween a full turn motor and a half turn motor, if that's really what it is?

Brushless at leisure??? - db302 - 01-06-2006

Hey all, I've got 16 years of electric R/C racing under my belt, hopefully my insight into this question helps. 6.5 and 6 1/2 turn motors are the same. The mechanics of how electric motors work is somewhat complex, not to offend anyone but it's like asking how a 4 stroke car engine functions when you have never seen one. Basically, the more turns the more torque/less rpm (horsepower). A 6.5 turn motor (depending on other variables) is a screaming mother of an electric motor. Most racers running non-brushless motors run 10 to 12 turn motors. Heck, back years ago fast motors ran 16-18 turns. I don't want to be whipping a dead horse here, but I hope I am starting to illustrate my point. Anyway, I realize this is off-topic for this forum (nitro). I can go on for hours about electric stuff, PM me if you want me to bore you to death. Race On!

Brushless at leisure??? - ATA_Thrash - 01-06-2006

I asked bernie this question myself Im not sure i got a strait answer but u could probly run in the mod class.

Brushless at leisure??? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 01-06-2006

Db, thanks for answering my question...nobody touched it for 6 months! I find electric interesting, but the equipment that supports it seems really expensive compared to nitro, but you get that indoor carpet racing benefit during the winter (I would be going TC elec, if anything).

Man it's dead on here tonight. Everyone must have gone to practice tonight. Bummer.

Getting back to elec. I have seen that the electrics are way faster/quicker than nitro in touring cars. They just can't run the long races, like gas. Still, anything that goes 0-50 in 2.5 seconds is cool in my book.

Brushless at leisure??? - ATA_Thrash - 01-06-2006

Oh and its a 6.5 turn Which is faster than any brushless out at the moment. Im looking to get a brushless setup for ease of maintainance and lipo batterys for 20 min run times. Oh and a 6 turn motor would be hard to drive most run 11 turns in the mod class.

Brushless at leisure??? - Notochord - 01-06-2006

I got my Brushless motor, its a 5.5 turn motor. its so fast i cant even drive it well i can drive it. its just stupid crazy fast. the tech info guy from novak said that its the equivalent of a 8 turn brushed motor. when i hit the gas the tires on the car baloon like 2.5 inches im kinda nervous about taking it to leisure hours and trying to race there

Brushless at leisure??? - UE-Maxx - 01-07-2006

Why? Becuase you would need to slow down becuase everyone else is slower? LOL

I have a Traxxas Bandit with a 12t ESC and a 17t Kyosho motor. With my GP3300 it seems fast enough for me and long enough run times just for driving around in front of the house. If this motor ever breaks, I will probably get a lower turn motor.

Brushless at leisure??? - Notochord - 01-07-2006

well i can drive my car fine on grass. to drive my car i need a lot of traction and i dont know how it will be like on a dirt track. if leisure hours had a long distance jumping contest i think i could do fairley well at it i drove my car off a ramp at full speed and it jumped like 30 feet now i gotta work on landing it :p:

Leisure has more traction than any dirt you've ever seen....it's a clay track

I've got the original Novak BL with the 5800. That speedo lets you dumb it down to "stock" speed/power settings. I haven't been into electric for a year or so as I'm not familiar with the new BL setups from Novak.

Does the new BL alow you to dumb it down to "Stock/Sportsman" also?

i was answering daves question

Brushless at leisure??? - Tex - 01-08-2006

a 6.5 turn motor is not faster than every brushless out, only the "economy" brushless systems like Novak.

A good hacker or Lehner etc... will whip the snot out of it.

Brushless at leisure??? - Notochord - 01-11-2006

The other day i took my car out and did some jumps. I havent really jumped my car that much with my Brushless motor because i got it when it started getting cold. i made a short 45 second video of the jumps. http://media.putfile.com/hostingtflipfinal soon me and North Shore Racer are gonna make a video so this is a preview of whats to come lol

Brushless at leisure??? - Tex - 01-11-2006

Awesome man...congrats on learning backflips....they are easier then you thought I bet Smile

Brushless at leisure??? - Notochord - 01-11-2006

lol ya i did three or four jumps before that and each time i would get my car flipped vertical but i would freak out and flatten it out but then i finally grew the balls and just held on to the gas. im kinda low on money so i cant afford to break anything Sad

Brushless at leisure??? - Tex - 01-11-2006

that house in the back of the vid does not look like you are hurting for money....lol

Lol, seriously.

Brushless at leisure??? - north_shore_racer - 01-11-2006

ha...wut can we say...north shore...sry. even though our houses are big. were still poor (as kids) so well not poor but hard on cash. and parents r still into the u want it u buy it...so thats not always the best. but ya were building a ramp either this weekend or next week during finals week cuz we have no school cept for finals so were gonna work on a ramp and ima do a roof jump or summin with a mini-t...1st story screen in porch roof. its nice and flat and i should be able to get a good start up. so thats gonna be jumped a couple times prolly....we'll see wut happens.! also im working on some trades for stuff i dont use to get a rc10t and a evader so i can jump those if i get em next week sometime...those will prolly be in the video too then. but ya it should be a good video...we'll see who has balls when it comes to the big stuff. so...thats all i gotta say.

Brushless at leisure??? - Tex - 01-12-2006

north shore racer, you got a PM

Brushless at leisure??? - north_shore_racer - 01-12-2006

ya sry...my friend thought itd be funny...didnt catch it. but ya the video were making should be pretty cool.

Brushless at leisure??? - slim - 01-15-2006

im looking for a brushless set up.... im cluless at the moment.
what do i want?
where to buy?
it will be for LH and a buggy. like a b4

Brushless at leisure??? - Notochord - 01-16-2006

Slim how powerful do u want ur B4 to be. the brushless i have is a 5.5 and its around a 8 turn brushed motor thats the GTB from Novak. im pretty sure everyone that runs modified runs like a 10 or 11 trun motor. The ss5800 might be better for racing or u can get a LRP brushless motor i think they just came out with a new system that is close to the GTB

Brushless at leisure??? - Tex - 01-16-2006

hey slim I posted your want add in the crispycritters forum, they are big on heli's over there. Hope you don't mind. Smile
