Does anyone really use this? I'm thinking about taking it out after the next software update for the site...

I did/do...it can't hurt to leave it...can it?

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - slaytanic - 05-20-2007

I would make it more prominent in the buy sell ads. Even though most of know who are the regulars.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-20-2007

whats with the Ad across the top of the page now greek?

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Ponch - 05-20-2007

Yeah....Financial problems? I think we could all cough up a couple bux a month if it would help cover the costs Tune.

After a while you'll never even notice them.

Click and check them out...Katrina relief is a worthy cause, IMO.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Mr. Tune - 05-20-2007

No financial troubles, just kinda hard to justify a $90/month server bill on a site that brings in $0 income in return. Figured I'd give ads a shot and see if it brings in anything worthwhile.

A hint toward the future though... no more for sale forum...paid classifies instead. Too much garbage in that forum. A pay to post classified system might be the solution I'm looking for. Worked for ebay...

lol, I gues once you put the ads, google will start scanning the page for keywords and such so it can offer targeted ads. On the homepage it's showing rc link Smile. Not sure if it'll work on the search results (like the new post link), but it's worth a shot, lol.

The occasional click won't harm anyone, and it will support the site. Just don't go overboard, I've read to many stories of google banning sites because they're cheating the system, lol. I figured the members clicked on a random ad once every couple of days it would be all good.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Ponch - 05-20-2007

I was reading on google about the ad system. You get paid per click on the ad, not per sale etc...

How much do you get per click, $.05-$.10?

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Mr. Tune - 05-20-2007

I believe it depends on the ad. The more targeted it is, the better. Meaning the ads that link to stuff directly related to what's on the page will most likely pay better than the one's that don't. Any of the ads that say public service anouncement get no money. That's just google plugging something in there until it's bot crawls the page to get info.

I notice on the homepage ad, that amainhobbies is an advertiser. Might prove handy for those about to make order Wink.

I like having the trader rating, most of the people you deal with on here are trustyworthy, but if you try to do a deal with someone on a different forum then it is nice to send them a link to the trader ratings.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Casketman - 05-20-2007

I dont see myself using those ads for anything. Itrader is fine, but I dont sell nor do I buy many items from people on here so I dont use it much.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - bubbaracing - 05-20-2007

Sad Big Grin What would it cost to post classified ads on here then? I-trader is good too like traxxas was saying to help ya see there rep?

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Mr. Tune - 05-20-2007

It would be cheap. But for those looking to sell off completely useless, used up stuff with prices for less than $5 and what not probably won't be too happy, but that's life. Members that need to resort to selling things like that should rethink whether they're in the right hobby.

Those with legitimate sales, like tires, rollers, parts lots, engines, etc, will be happier knowing all the crap is gone. For example paying say $1 for selling $50 in tires or $5 for a $200 roller is worth it IMO. Still way cheaper than paying ebay fees and less hassle with shipping since the majority on the boards are all local to chicago.

i-trader is a plus

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - squirrel - 05-20-2007

Can you make it so you have to pay 1 cent to post? That would rid us of some of these waterheads!!!

Per post or total? Cuz then rocco would owe about $120 bucks..haha...

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - FreeRideFrosty - 05-20-2007

I really like the iTrader and such. I think it helps show who has been around and done good deals since post count is gone (just as a way of showing who has been here). I am really not a fan of paid classifieds though. I don't know about others but I really don't see a large enough amount of interest in an perticular item to spend a few bucks listing it on here. I think if anything suspensions should be handed out for posting random BS crap in the FS section for a while. If they become clean and productive then I can see a small fee. JMO though. I like how truggyracers has it with a minimum post count (though that won't work anymore) and then a total no BS rule. Again, JMO....

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 05-20-2007

instead of having people pay just have it an automatic ban if you try to sell some stupid bs like 2 used AA batteries lol problem solved

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Racin' Ranger1 - 05-20-2007

+1 for itrader i use it when dealing with people on other forums and such

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Mr. Tune - 05-20-2007

I don't think it it's possible to auto remove or ban dumb for sale threads. Yearly subscription is also possible versus pay per post. I honestly think forcing some kind of payment is the only way to weed out the junk in that forum.

Also, figured I might as well test some new bb code while I make this post. Embeded youtube videos...

i think you should set up a premium member section. where people can post whore and they get something like a decal. and set up a monthly fee and a yearly fee. that would help get the site money

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Traxxas_Junkee - 05-20-2007

I really don't like the idea of the payment for the for sale ads. I know I won't be using it anymore to sell anything if that is the case.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - UE-Maxx - 05-20-2007

I don't like the idea of payment for for sale items. What about a membership to the site like $5. It says there is currently 284 active users. That's $1420. Should be enough to keep the site up and running for a while.

trader ratings, ads, and site update discussions - Traxxas_Junkee - 05-20-2007

How about if you want to sells something it needs to be approved by a mod or site admin before it is displayed publicly? It would cut out on the BS threads, the threads that don't have pictures, don't explain enough, etc...
