nothing but trouble - hansarvin - 04-20-2007

well I've recently tried to break-in my Mugen and have had nothing but problems. The starter box is basically the biggest problem I know it's lined up and that I charged a brand new battery for 10 hours and it wasn't working, it's was moving the flywheel but not turning it over it's like it doesn't have enough power. I'm so confused and ready to throw the thing at the wall, thanks for any help

heat up the motor to 200 then try...makes it turn alot easier.

Also if you back the plug out just a bit it might help you get it to turn over. Just make sure you tighten back up once it starts!

+10,000 on heating it up! you need to do that for the first 2 gal at least! i do it all the time.

also, blow on the pressure line to get the fuel up to the carb so it instantly lubricates the cylinder and will aide in starting too.

Also try using a 12 volt battery, that is what I use. the 7.2 don't seem to have much torque.

nothing but trouble - hansarvin - 04-20-2007

that's what I'm using

nothing but trouble - hansarvin - 04-20-2007

o and I tried heating it up too and no luck also if it helps I'm running a sportwerks .26 V2

Starter boxes that take (2) 7.2 packs actually pump out 14.4 volts to the starter box motor.

So a starter box with (2) 7.2 volt packs will have more torque than a starter box with a 12 volt gelcell.
More volts = more power (and torque)

nothing but trouble - slim - 04-20-2007

what starter box ARE you using?

7.2 prolly wont start a old motor.

nothing but trouble - pwnzor - 04-20-2007

get a box and batteries that is capable of supplying the torque needed to start that mill................you heated with hobbico heat gun or blow dryer to nearly 200 as Chad stated and still wont turn over??? new box bud Wink

maybe the 12v batt is weak?

if its a stick pack box, then you def need 2 packs, even running a 12v to a stick pack designed box/motor is like running 14.4v set up when its dead.

fully peaked mine is around 19 volts. whurrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Since I had to make a custom motor mount for my Chrome top box, the flywheel sits too close to the wheel and doesn't have enough time to spool up before the flywheel hits the starter wheel, so I need to hold the back end of the truck up, then push on the top when my other hand for it to spool up, then I hover the flywheel ontop of the starter wheel till it fires up. (what I'm saying is, do what I do and see if the starter wheel just needs to spool up a bit)

They do make pegs with a little "step" on them for situations like that. I have them on my starter box. I'll see if I can find them for you.

well it's still for sale I said F@#% it and bought a Revo... ya I know a Revo I've already gotten 2 tanks through it flawlessly and I was using Rocco's old starter box with a fully charged 12V

nothing but trouble - rocco79 - 04-20-2007

Sorry to here your having problems.... That was my buggy starter box and worked flawlessley all season. Are you SURE its not mis wired?

nothing but trouble - hansarvin - 04-20-2007

how would it be miss wired? I never changed it since I got just bought a brand new battery to put in it

nothing but trouble - dentguy92 - 04-20-2007

that box was a monster... It turned over my new P5 with out any heat

nothing but trouble - PINKY - 04-20-2007

that .26 is what i run and had no prob breakin it in and i have the cheap black ofna boxes check and make sure that the starter box wheel is not hitting the chassis.

:p:

nothing but trouble - hansarvin - 04-21-2007

lol I just saw that I mean I've got my Revo running great just want to know why I couldn't get it started

nothing but trouble - rocco79 - 04-21-2007

Yeah i got the box from dent guy and it always worked perfect. Im sorry your having troubles. The reason i asked if it was wired correctly was because you said you were going to put stick packs in it...

nothing but trouble - hansarvin - 04-21-2007

ya I decided not to mess with that and use a 12v but I've heard of guys on truggy racers having to dremel their chassis or something I kinda just glanced at it. And Rocco that's ok I don't blame it on you at least I've got something that runs now, I'm selling this and running a Revo but I'll buy a Prospec later this summer to run
