clutch nut question - mikev - 03-14-2007

is it normal for a clutch nut to fall off? Am I supposed to use threadlock on this part of the car? I have a losi xxx-nt and mine seems to have fallen off last week. I got a new one and just want to know if there is anything that i can do to prevent this from happening again. ~Mike

so your loosing your nuts huh? lol i know this is stupid but tighten it up tighter. if you want you could get by with loc-tite but i would only use blue, NOT RED! and only a small amount.

yes, I use blue loctite on the clutch nut, just a little as said before. Just be sure to get it good and tight against the flywheel so it cinches up against the collet. I also use the piston-locking-tool-thing that goes though the backplate to capture the con rod so it can't rotate in the cylinder. I think its made by Dynamite. Cheap tool and it works!!

do that^^^. i just use a vice grip to grab onto the flywheel and tighten the nut on really hard. i dont remember if i used loctite when i built the kit lol.

Mike, you're thinking of the one that goes thru the glow plug hole. The one he's talking about sounds different.

I don't use any loctite on the clutch nut. I don't think it would do much good anyway and that area would get too hot and breakdown the loctite anway. If it's coming loose, it's not tight enough. Crank down on that sucker!

maybe ur right ponch, ive only heard of one piston locking tool

dimo you dont use loctite because when ur flywheel spins off the collet while ur racing the bases it sounds cooler you basher!

The losi clutch is different than the 1/8 scales. The nut is like a long sleeve with a female hex on the end. Using hobby grade allen drivers it is too hard to get the nut tight enough. Mine fell off also, I didnt use loctite, that can bite you in the ass later. The second time I used my snappy 1/4" drive allen sockets and really snugged it tight.
