What is the One Best Revo mod? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 03-08-2005

This question got lost in the end of my thread looking for MT selection (except for one reply):

What is the One Best bang-for-the-buck mod you can make to the stock Revo?

Is it a OS 18 motor, aluminum arms, different diff lube weights, or tires, whatever?

Throw your opinions in here.

Thanks

DaveC

almost any kinds of mods you do to the revo will make it better. My personal favorite mod is the os .18 motor. The 2.5 worked great for me and i rarely had problems but the os has a ton more speed, and seems to have the best power curve for the revo. Either the os or lunsford parts are my favorite. Everything after that is still just getting a good setup you like. And i wouldnt get any aluminum arms unless you want a really heavy truck.

Especially since RPM has a arms out for the Revo now.

Blown5.0? Are you saying that alum arms are heavy, especially RPM's arms?

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Blown5.0 - 03-08-2005

Michowski said the aluminum arms are heavier, I was stating that RPM has Revo a arms out now (non aluminum) and that would probably be the better choice. I just installed RPM a arms last weekend on my Revo and they are about the same weight as the stockers and look very impressive compared to the stock arms.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Michowski - 03-08-2005

the rpm arms are a lot lighter then the aluminum arms out right now. The only downside that the rpm arms have is that they got a lot of flex in them. That is the one reason why there so indestructible. For bashing there the best arms money can buy, for racing i would stick with the stockers. Dont go aluminum if you are worried about weight, your truck will probly gain like 2 pounds or more with just arms. Wait till UE comes out with arms or dace. They make there products out of 7075 which is light and strong.

Cool, thanks for the clarifications. I am completely new to MT aftermarket parts, having just picked up the Revo. I had read about Dace and UE from your other threads and have checked out the UE site. Holy $$$$. $serious $stuff!!!! Again, if you race, probabaly well worth it.

We're looking forward to getting familiar with the Revo so that some day we can run with y'all on the bumps and jumps of a track like LH. Until then,

#1 upgrade is taking out the 2 stock steering servos out and replacing with 1 thats around 180-200 oz.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 04-19-2005

I also have read about trimming the stock steering stops to gain a little more steerign travel. Has anyone done this, and if so, are they glad they did?

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Michowski - 04-19-2005

just about anybody with a revo has done this. If you have stock servo's tho it wont make any difference. Its a good mod to do if your gonna race or bash.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - snakebite46 - 04-19-2005

One mod to the Revo I dont think anyone has mentioned is trimming down the steering stops on the Revo. From the factory, theres 2 tabs to prevent full steering for newer drivers to prevent oversteering the Revo. If you flip the revo over and use the steering, you'll see the 2 tabs I'm talking about. Use a dremel and grind the down to get more steering.

Wow totally missed you guys talking about that in the last posts

wow i was wondering what you were doing lmao.

issues =P

What's your pick for the replacement servo? And what does it sell for?

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Tex - 04-19-2005

Airtronics 358...about $110

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Michowski - 04-19-2005

airtronics 359z. $115 and it comes with a heatsink around it to help prolong motor life. Also seems a lot better over the 358. Much smoother and to me a tiny bit faster.

Thanks for the servo info. I also see from the Traxxas boards that I should seriously consider a radio system change to get a radio that has steering EPA's to help protect the servo at full steering limits. SO I guess I keep saving for that servo along with a better radio. Now I guess I could just get another Futaba rcvr and use the multiple model memory feature of the radio on my car, but then I can't run 'em both at the same time, so maybe that's no good either. I suppose in the long run going synth FM will the wiser direction to go.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Michowski - 04-20-2005

try ebay for some jr xs3 radio's. There the best deal for what you get with them. There synthesised so you can have all the fm channels with out crystals and change to any channel in seconds. Its got 6 model memory so you can program up to 6 cars on your controller. Its a really good radio for what you pay.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Tex - 04-20-2005

you can't upgrade to spektrum with the XS3 so if you want to end up going that route don't get the XS3.

Also with the XS3 only 5 volts gets sent to the servos if you put the RX pack in the "b/c" slot on the receiver. You won't get the whole 6 volts.

You can bypass this by plugging the batt pack in the 3rd channel slot instead of using the "b/c" slot.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Michowski - 04-20-2005

but also think of it this way. With all the people going to spektrum, fm channels are gonna be freed up a lot. Now most people probly wont have to switch channels as often and just drive more. And you can just use a y adapter plug and that will give you 6 volts if you plug your battery into the battery slot. Thats another quick fix for that.

so either way it's a good thing Smile

What is the One Best Revo mod? - Mr. Tune - 04-20-2005

If I remember the thread correctly, it's only certain receiver that have that problem. Mine gets all 6 volts Smile. Then again I have the xs3 pro, so the receivers might be different.

What is the One Best Revo mod? - snakebite46 - 04-20-2005

The RS300 has the built in voltage regulator. The JR RS310 does not.
