Mike...which one??

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 12-11-2006

The green, i never thought faskolor green could look like that, i am guessing u used faslucent green and a coarse silver backer?

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Obsessive R/C - 12-11-2006

Close...Faslucent green w/ Key lime Faspearl backed with white.

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 12-11-2006

ah sneaky sneaky, never would have thought to even try that, great combo

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 12-11-2006

And it is so funny how one or two drops can alter a color. I tried 15 different mixes on Drew's Dew body before I got the dew yellow color I liked.

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Obsessive R/C - 12-11-2006

I rarley use any color straight from the bottle...except flourecents, I usually mix them or add pearls

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Rodzo - 12-12-2006

I think I have asked this a million times. Are you guys reducing your paints?

50/50 Windex & Water or 50/50 Fantastik & Water?

For the life of my I can't get my Faskolor, Auto Air, or Creatix to spray decent. It's always grainy, and spattery. Not to mention tip dry!

I've tried straight out of the bottle, reduced in all %, PSI adjustment, and I am just getting frustrated! Sold colors and general masking is no problem, but when it comes to shadows and stuff, it make sit a pain!

HOK sprays EXCELLENT! But I can't sray that in the house, especially in the same room as the furnace and water heater!

Maybe my compressor jsut sucks or something? It is a 2 gallon one from Menards. I don't know the CFM on it, as I can't find it anyplace.

Let me know guys!
Thanks

I mix good old blue windex and tap water in equal parts and keep it in a squeeze bottle. I reduce opaque Faskolor to about 6 parts paint to 4 parts thinner mix. For finer spray I go more like 5:5 or 4:6 on paint:thinner ratio and spray through a .35mm tip at roughly 20-25psi for most stuff. You can go thinner and use lower pressure, but too thin the paint gets real easy to blow around and run.

As for spatter and tip dry, I find FasWhite to be the worst for some reasons. Must be all that pigment. For white I really thin it, and crank the air pressure up.

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - rocco79 - 12-12-2006

windex??? why?

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Obsessive R/C - 12-12-2006

Sounds about right...50/50 mix of Windex & water, then reduce color as needed.
I also use Createx Auto Air Reducer & Transparency extender
4010 & 4011 Flash reducer help with control and preventing over-spray when using smaller tip sizes at lower PSI settings for cleaner lines for detailed work.

Honestly I use thinned out laquer based for most of my shadowing.

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 12-12-2006

It contains alcohol that reduces surface tension in the liquid mix. This allows the paint to form smaller droplets when sprayed. It also makes the paint a little easier to clean up in the airbrush.

and it smells good! jk.

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Obsessive R/C - 12-12-2006

Windex has a higher suface tension than just straight water...it helps the paint not pool up & blow around when spraying.
(Yea....what he said...Dave types faster..lol)

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 12-12-2006

:o: sorry JC, I'll stop answering questions in your thread, my bad....

Obsessed F/X, custom paint - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 12-12-2006

higher surface tension would in effect make the paint pool up more, surface tension is what makes water droplets form, the windex keeps the the paint more in a stream as you said, the alcohol helps the "pool" dry faster
