Motor Swap / HPI Dash - NitroNoob - 12-16-2004

I bought both of my sons an HPI Dash for X-mas. I will probably pick up one for myself so I can race against them. Not knowing all that much about the electric cars, I was wondering if anyone knows if it is possible to replace the motor in the HPI Dash. I know the HPI site says its not an upgradable car, but I have to wonder if it is at all possible. The car is currently running a 380 electric motor w/ forward and reverse.

Whats a decent (non-expensive) electric motor that I could use to give this modifiaction a shot?

I will be running one 3000mAh 7.2v battery as this is all that I can fit in the car.

It's not upgradable. For $80 more per car you could have had upgradable cars. HPI Sprint.

I would just leave the Dash's stock because it would suck to break them and not be able to repair it.

My .02 cents Smile

I got a good deal on the DASH's I only paid $80.00 for them, the Sprint is like a $200.00 car. I am going to buy another one to experiment on. I would only upgrade my sons cars if I could get mine to work.

Whats the difference in the number of turns a motor makes?
Do I want a higher number like a 27-T, or a lower number like a 10-T or 12-T?
Which motor uses more juice a high turn motor or a low turn motor?
Whats the difference between a brushless motor and a regular motor? (besides one uses brushes and one doesnt, pros and cons.)

the higher number of turns on a motor, the slower and more power conserving it is. I definitely would not throw a low turn motor in a dash, the speed control won't handle it and the car will fry.

The dash was meant to be left alone. I bet you will have some problems getting a 540 motor in a 380 space.

General rule of thumb. lower turns = more power + more battery power consumption.

If you're looking into electrics to play with, I have a stock sprint I'll let go for $80. Good shape, slightly used.

Post some pics of the Sprint, I just might take you up on that offer. Whats all included with that Sprint?
