does it matter what the temperature is like outside to break in a revo? cuzz my firend will have this tomrorow and we're gona try and break it in on saturday, also..what's the best environment to break in on? asphault, dirt, straigh, lots of turns?
thanks!

revo break in? - Michowski - 03-01-2006

dont do it below 50 degree's outside otherwise once it turns hot outside tuning is going to be difficult. The the hotter outside the better.

revo break in? - Traxxas_Junkee - 03-01-2006

watch the traxxas tuning DVD..

revo break in? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 03-01-2006

Minimum of 40-45* outside. Smooth, level surface (paved) is best so less stress is placed on the motor during break-in. Definately watch the Traxxas video, at a minimum.

revo break in? - Mr. Tune - 03-01-2006

It it's less than 50 outside, you could always wrap some aluminum foil around the engine head. That's how I broke in both my new motors. I was getting readings around 230ish when breaking in my 2.5r with the foil on it. After breaking it it, I took the foil off and the temps dropped dramatically really fast. Settled around 170 or so.

The key to breaking in a motor is making sure the temps never go below 200*.

revo break in? - Traxxas_Junkee - 03-01-2006

i had the foil over my 2.5R and it was super hot, like it hit 290 on the first tank with in the first 5 min, i took the foil off and it was about 220 and i just broke it in with out the foil on there and the temp stayed fine, and the motor has been fine, but it has like a 1/4 gallon on it.

How cold was it outside when you foiled it? It was 35* for me when I did it. It was not fun by any means, but I had a race to attend the next day...

revo break in? - Traxxas_Junkee - 03-01-2006

im not sure what the temp was, was but it was cold, below freezing i know that, but if worst comes to worse i can just use that motor for the winter if something is screwed up.

how much nitro does it take to get the thing broken in? im thinkin 2 tanks, i know the manual has info but we're just tryin to get as much info as possible first

revo break in? - Racin' Ranger1 - 03-02-2006

its like 5 tanks

revo break in? - Michowski - 03-02-2006

2 tanks for heat cycle, 5 for anything else. 1 gallon to fully break in a motor. Never under any circumstances tho leave your engine at wot for more then 3 seconds untill you get at least 15 tanks on it. Its still a fresh motor and parts are breakin in and you dont want to take to many chances and push it to far. Better to be safe then sorry.

what is the heat cycle?

revo break in? - kevinF - 03-02-2006

ok, thanks

revo break in? - Czech-it-Out Graphics - 03-02-2006

most motors need atleast 1-2 gallons before they are fully broken in, u will notice one point in the motors early life when all of a sudden it starts to run cooler and with more power, thats when its fully broken in

revo break in? - dirtguy90 - 03-02-2006

do i have to get a temp gage, or could i use one that's like for cooking and rig it to be next to the motor?

revo break in? - Traxxas_Junkee - 03-02-2006

get a digital one, a lot more accurate, keep the motor under 270 optimal is between 220 and 250 for the 2.5R and 2.5 in my expierience.

revo break in? - Tex - 03-03-2006

optimal temp for the 2.5 from my experience is 270-300F, it will also depend what temp it is outside.

revo break in? - Michowski - 03-03-2006

optimal temps for mine is 220-240

revo break in? - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 03-03-2006

On OD's 20% my 2.5R runs hot, 250-275, when it's really making power.

revo break in? - kevinF - 03-03-2006

with my 2.5 and 30% platinum it runs between 225-260

revo break in? - dirtguy90 - 03-04-2006

ok, so all i have to do is drive it around and keep the motor above 220*, accelerate slowly, let the motor cool between runs, and not go full throttle?
thanks

revo break in? - Michowski - 03-04-2006

follow what it says http://www.rcuniverse.com/magazine/article_display.cfm?article_id=397

revo break in? - dirtguy90 - 03-04-2006

alright, we went to start it to break it in and it won't start

we push the button on the starter, it spins and then just shuts off
so we check to see if the engine is flooded, it's not and then we wait a while and try to start it again
we put it on there, it spins and then just shuts off again

we've done this probably 7 or 8 times
what could the probmlem be?
thanks

revo break in? - Tex - 03-04-2006

keep pressing the button on and off in spirts. When you check to see if it's flooded do you take the glow plug out, then turn the truck upside down and hit it with the ezstart? that will clear the engine of fuel.

Are you sure fuel is making it to the carb?
