Since I'm new here, thought I'd post my story... - olds97_lss - 02-19-2006 Well, I'm a new guy here, but I've been in the hobby for about 6 years. This is my story. (long post...) Started the hobby on a whim and bought a xxx-nt for Christmas (thanks in part to my wife). I always wanted to get a RC, but couldn't afford it as a kid. I'm no longer a "kid"... I have since owned and gotten rid of a few more. Started with a xxx-nt, then got a t-maxx once I realized I had nowhere to drive a ST. Converted the t-maxx to a 21 chassis. Got tired of fixing it all the time, so I traded the xxx-nt for another t-maxx that I converted to 2wd. Was relatively happy for about 6 months, then I got a savage. Sold both maxx's within a few months due to the savage being much more of what I wanted, durability, power. That was all pretty much in the first 3 years. I wanted something "fast" but durable, so I got a HB lightning 1/8th buggy roller for $100 and quickly did some changes to make it a little better for my bash sites. I installed a 50T spur, 12T CB, OFNA blazer wheels/tires and OFNA shocks. Now it's fast and relatively durable depending on how stupid I feel on any given bash day. Somewhere in the middle, I purchased a HPI Nitro MT... I wanted to try the ST thing again, but thought 4wd would suit me better... it didn't. Sold it a few months after buying it. I recently bought a used revo for $350 shipped with RPM arms and aluminum shock ends. The engine was in almost new condition and so was the rest of the truck. Barely a scratch could be found on it. I've only run about a gallon through it and it seems to be a pretty tough and agile truck. I'll find out more when warmer weather comes. Since it is winter, I pretty much went into RC hibernation until I got the Revo in November. Then I have only driven it over the past few months when it warms up on rare occasions. In the meantime, I've cleaned and rebuilt my savage and did some much needed maintenance on both the savage and my buggy. Both are now sitting and waiting for warmer weather. Here are my rigs as they sit now. Or I was running a half body... I don't care for SUV bodies. Makes it to hard to get at the engine/starter/fuel tank. Using the cold rolled steel bar allows the truck to slide instead of dig in like the RCS cage that I had... and broke: I band-aided that cage with the same type of bar that you see on there now. I was surprised how well it held up. I ran it like this for about 3 gallons of abuse: On a wreck, be it a roll over or end over end, the steel bar just glances off the ground and slides. This dissipates a lot of the impact. I also allowed enough of an angle near the rear tower so it can bend about 3/4 of an inch forward before it hits my tower. Should work out ok... I hope. Getting those towers again from skip will be a PITA as he only has them occasionally. I hate aluminum towers, or I'd try nova's. Since I'm new here, thought I'd post my story... - olds97_lss - 02-19-2006 I normally get a lot of flak for how my rigs look... but at the end of a day, they are normally still fully functional. Besides, I bash 98% of the time alone, so the only person to impress is me. Well, and all of you guys...
