Liability Insurance - chicagokenji - 02-14-2006

I may have a bash spot very near to the city of Chicago inside a church/cemetary. I had an initial meeting with the powers that be there this morning. I toured the grounds and we all exchanged phone numbers. I told them I would be stopping back to discuss bashing there for the future.

I'm sure the issue of liability for accidents and injury is going to come up. So I've just begun researching liability insurance for RC bashing. I haven't called any of my insurance guys yet but I thought I would ask here.

I'm wondering how a club like the Dirt Dawgs handles the legal aspect of liability? I just visited their website but it looks like they are on hiatus because the schedule and webpages is still set to 2005. I believe they have lots of people going to private property to race and bash and I was thinking they probably have some kind of insurance and that I might call whoever they use.

I looked into ROAR's insurance and it only covers actual races and practices during races.

Anyone else have any experience with bashing on private property and what to do about the legal aspects of it?

Any info is appreciated.

I would think that as long as the place your bashing at doesnt require it then it would be fine. I think a simple signed waiver would do it. Just draw up something that states you will not sue the property owners or organizers of the event if in case injury or damage is incurred.

BTW where is this new spot?

thanks for the reply.

I'd think that would work if it's just me and my boys. I was also thinking if I can get it off the ground that this place would also be a good place to invite others to bash with us. Maybe even hold a race there. If that's the case a simple waiver might not work best. What if you come but bring your nephew? You could sign a waiver but your nephew couldn't be on the grounds because his parents can't sign the waiver......

I think if you had consent of the parents, in which case you would become the guardian it would be fine, but I'm no lawyer so...

Not to digress but I thought I would let you know that Steinkamp and Ballogg have dissolved their partnership after 25 years of business. One of the great Architectural Photo studios has fallen to the wayside, a shame really but it was for the best.
