Panther Boas / Truggy Wheels - BlackWolf42 - 01-27-2006

The channel that the bead sits in is not deep enough. I have the OFNA trug wheels. They're not glued up yet. I was considering removing some of the rubber so that they fit nicely. Question: Do any of you run them as is, or is it common to remove some material from the tire?

designed that way to make glueing easier.

so if they don't fit all the way in the groove, doesn't that mean they will not glue up correctly? I would cut minimal amounts off until they fit perfect.

They are designed with a larger bead. They arent meant to fit all the way into the channel on the rim.

Cool, I can see how that would make it easier. I didn't know if Panther or another maker had wheels with really deep channels for this type of tire.

Problem solved...
Thanks guys.

explaination for that? that doesn't make sence why they would do that, what benefit could that provide?

Panther Boas / Truggy Wheels - snakebite46 - 01-30-2006

I explained it in the 2nd post. The bead sticks out on the rim to make glueing easier.........

Go in the 2005 conference on the grid and look in the Panther section when the tires were released for the complete explanation.

Why exactly is the bead on the Boa so big ? I thought I remembered
reading in the 05 conference that is was designed that way to make
glueing easier. Is there any other benefit ?

Thanks.

Rich - You hit the nail on the head. It's called the "glue channel" and
to be honest, the first time I saw it, I thought it was pretty silly.
Then I glued up a set of Boas and realized how nice they were.

With a thin glue, you can puddle a little bit of it up, spin the wheel
around and spread the glue all through the channel and it will wick
right down into the bead and give you a perfect glue job every time.

I personally prefer Fusion glue, but Losi or PL thin would probably work
just as well.

Sweet! thanks

Panther Boas / Truggy Wheels - DAVEC-NITRO-RS4 - 02-23-2006

I am looking at this now, and does it look strange that the tire doesn't seat against that part of the wheel. But cutting the tire bead wouldn't make it right either. So glue them up I shall! If this is screwed up I am writing to Jeff Schwartz.....

Panther Boas / Truggy Wheels - rocco79 - 02-23-2006

It works perfect.... Dont worry

email (because I question everything) from Panther:

Dave,

Yes, this is normal, the small area around the bead is a glue channel. This
helps keep the glue from getting on your tire and the wheel. also you can
put a little extra CA on the tires and run it around the bead area to get a
better gluing without getting it all over the tire.
