hey i have a tamiya TL-01 with a leightweight chassis, speed tuned gear, bearings, venom 17t motor, 2000mah battery pack and an LRP AI Runner Plus ESC. i know that 17t isnt too good for drifting, but i was outside today and it worked pretty well. i already put some clear duct tape on the tires, which are VERY slick and slippery. even more slippery than the electrical tape that i just worn down. i need some suggestions on drifting. heres what i did today so far with my tl-01:
1. whenever i would go up to the turns, i would turn the car slightly, then increase the throttle. after i get about 45 degrees on the turn, i would immedietly spin out cuz i turned too sharp. how can i fix this?
2. the suspension is pretty hard, should i leave it liike that?
3. should i lower the ride height?
4. since i cannot adjust toe-in and camber, will stock settings be okay?

any help or suggestions would be sweet, i really want to be good at drifting so i can turn some heads in the neighborhood lol.

F the duct tape and use some pvc or abs pipe and glue them to some crappy rims for practice...id suggest soft springs...
stock settings is ok becuase mine is stock....

the abs or pvc grips but it will get you side ways though with control!

abs or pvc is a good way to go, I agree. Lasts much longer than the tape will too.

ok ill lock my differentials, and then go to my hardware store and see if i can get some pvc or abs......any more suggestions?

That is all that my frind and I did and it was easy to control...

yup.. PVC for tires and then learn to control the car with the throttle to keep it sideways around the turns.

aight guys, i was driving and i heard lots of clicks in the tranny. are the gears under stress? and how can i prevent this?

Just started drifting, suggestions? - bigdangerous - 01-10-2006

rocks?

You might want to clean your bearings, my tranny on my T4 used to do that after a few runs in very dusty/ditry condtions. I thought I cracked a gear in the trans, but after checking nope gears where fine, so I asked around, and was told try cleaning the bearings and sure enough the clicking stopped.

did it help ur drifting???? if their plastic then get some metal ones

Just started drifting, suggestions? - The_Thubbed_One - 01-22-2006

Get the metal dogbones and the PVC tires and set your camber to zero and you'll be able to drift the car without any problem. Getting going? Now there's a problem. I had that setup going with my TL-01 and I never had any problems.

Just started drifting, suggestions? - AznRacer - 01-25-2006

it comes with metal DBs....i will get PVCs asap when i get the dogbones.....anyone know where i can get dogbones for this car?
thubbed, you cant set camber or toe-in/toe-out......it has fixed steering links

Just started drifting, suggestions? - The_Thubbed_One - 01-27-2006

Hehe... yea... I was thinking about my newly acquired TC3 when I said that. sorry. but the dogbones the TL01 come with are chintzy wimpy little things. The metal "upgrade" ones cost like 9 bucks a pair and I haven't broken one. You should be able to get them at any hobby store that stocks tamiya parts because the same dogbone is shared between like 9 models.

Just started drifting, suggestions? - AznRacer - 01-31-2006

sorry, i havent found one hobby store that sells much tamiya parts. i am about to get 4 dogbones from a stock tl-01 from someone for $5.
