Possibly trading the savvy for one....Any opinions? Smile

Good points, bad points?

ther good for a RTR buggy...a few people in the DIRT DAWGS race them with really good results

Cool. Thanks.

Seriously, stay away. The Storm my be an OK 1/8 starter but they are pretty fragile and not so popular nowadays. Get something else that has a good reputation and that evryone else races so you can trade parts. Always look at the big picture first before hand. GS is at the bottom of the feeding chain in the 1/8 buggy world, you would do better with a Mayham.

I have to agree I had a storm SUT when they where first out and I broke something everytime out. So needless to say I didnt keep it to long. They have serious durability issues. Get a mayhem as Joe said or pick up a used kanai or 777.

Sell him your 777 and you get the storm cracka. :joy:

Wow... I didn't realize that you guys were so anti-storm. I would be the one he is trading with so I figured I would get a look. I have to say I'm not sure where the durability arguments are coming from. I have never proken ANYTHING on the buggy. 3 of my friends have the truggy (heavier but still the same just bigger wheels and different towers). They launch them over and over again off of ramps into drainage ditches, off of banners tied to fences to make ramps, anything. The only thing I ever saw them break was the rear bumper and the battery box. (The earlier storms were recalled because they used a brittle plastic... this was all changed and all of the more recent storms use a stronger plastic.)

As for it being on the bottom of the food chain... I don't know about that. The thing is that it just does not have as much tuning potential as a higer end mugen or kyosho. I changed the shock towers to aftermarket ones with more adjustability and it has been all that I ever needed.

I have a storm and I like it. Fun RTR buggy to get you going. And even though I like it, I still wouldn't trade a savvy for one. Why you ask? Because a storm isn't an expensive buggy. I was able to pick up with no electronics for $100. Used savages are worth much more than that.

i had a storm at one of the monster jams. did the long jump and got 60' and only broke the wing mounts. didnt help that i landed on the lid.i beet the hell out of mine. and only broke the wing mount a couple of times. the only reson i got rid of it is i needed the parts for the mutant maxx. and then gave tune the spare parts.

Sorry to offend you. A freind of mine bought the PRO version of the storm and all he had was breakage issues with it all the time. He could not believe how fragile it was. The pro looked like a million bucks, but in reality, it was not up to the abuse that racing gives. Bottom of the food chain is a correct statement, sorry. The avengeger came in dead last in a test aticle in XRC. Turns out GS stopped making that buggy after that and has an all new buggy that just came out. GS doesnt make the worst buggy in the world, they do have a worlds team in europe and they do ok in racing, but to me, you must spend a little on the good stuff to avoid all possible problems. But thats me. I take my racing too seriously sometimes and dont really think about how others use there equipment. Sorry again.

no prob. just giving my end of a story. having bolth sides will help make choices. im a basher. and it worked great for me. i didnt have it when i started going to the track so i cant coment on racing. but at that bash it did 50 or 60mph. and 60' i will try to find the vidio of my new buggy on this site so you can see how bad i beat my trucks.

Good vid's/ The big air jusy needed a small house under it and it would have been Academy Awards quality!

Does your motor run lean at that altitude? Or would it be rich with thinner air?

GS Storm any good? - rocco79 - 10-15-2005

I too had a GS SUT ... I tried and tried to make that truck a good race truck but it constentley broke...Arms upper and lower... Rear hub carriers, CVD'S (Big TIME!), Turnbuckles ,ect ... MaxxGS has very good luck with his GS trucks (all 15 :bustingup :bustingup Just kidding Brian!!!) Hes always up in the LSP mix. But his SUT has been heavily modded
