After playing in the water Sunday the axle ball bearings seem like they could use some lube but how?

This month's issue of Xtreme RC Cars (or is it RC Car Action?) was step by step on the subject. You have to pop out the seals, then clean, relube and reassemble them.

I've read different ways to pop the seals out, some say use an exacto knife, some say there is some kind of retaining clip.

Plastic seal exacto knife
Metal seal retaining clip

I've also read if you just use ARO it will seem through the plastic seal.

That doesn't clean out any dirt or dust that might be in there already.

Everyone recommends the RPM bearing blaster?

yep, blast the dirt and grime out of the bearings, then lube.

if you just lube then all that grime stays in there.

I'm embarrased to say my wheel bearing were in bad friggin shape!

I have some aerosol white grease. I popped the seals off and blasted that white grease in there. It took quite awhile to get them spinning freely.

This is what I do but I have access to an air compressor, solvants and red wheel bearing greese. I pop the seals out with a pick and drop them on a bucket of solvent. then blow the crap out. spray with wd-40 (I have penzoil ZQ4)and blow more crap out till they spin freely. Then pack the red greese in both sides. Put the seals back in. Presto all done.

Thanks, I just never realized how important this was till I saw the condition mine were in.

Of course I was plowing through big water last Sunday.

Yeah, or you could just do it the easy way and once in a while hit ebay and get a new full set;

Wow, that is pretty reasonable for 25 bearings.

I am watching bearings from that same vendor. Has anyone purchased from him? I wonder if these are quality bearings or crap.

I've heard some say the Full Force RC rubber sealed bearings are real good?

Avid bearings
Avid's are great bearings. Last a long time and are very smooth bearings.

I heard you can clean bearing using a fish tank air pump... You but the bearings in a lil dish and submere them in motor spray or some other chemical cleaner and then set the container on top of the air pump... The pump vibrates so much in kinda ultra sound cleans the bearnings by vibrating out the crud..

Never tryed it, i just replace my bearings when the get crispy
