I thought we could start a discussionon Off Road engines, give our thought and reviews on engines. This might be helpful to people looking to buy a new engine.

Maybe give the engine, fuel used, pipe, glow plug fuel tank etc. Then give runtimes, power and reliablity.

What do you guys think?

Vehicle:.....Savage
Engine:.....K4.6 (4.6cc/2.9hp) engine.
Fuel:.........Powermaster 20% fuel
Pipe:.........HPI dual chamber tuned pipe
Glowplug:.McCoy MC-59 glow plugs
Tank:........Primerless, rear pick-up

Runtime:...Haven't really timed it but roughly 10-15 minutes.
Power:......Wheelies with ease
Reliability:.Starts on first three pulls.
I like it. Here's mine.

Engine:........Traxxas 2.5R
Truck: ..........Stock Revo
Fuel: ............20% Trinity Horsepower
Glow Plug: ...Stock
Run time: ......A little over 10 minutes
My Review:....Lots of power for a factory motor! With the right gearing, this motor can win you alot of races. A little finiky on the tuning which can be frustrating for beginners. The carb is the biggest problem. It's composite, and the threads on the body can be stripped easily if you're not carefull.

Engine:........O.S. .18TM
Truck:...........Revo
Fuel:.............20% Trinity Horsepower
Glow Plug.....O.S. LC3
Run Time.......8 minutes or so of racing
My Review....Wheelies on command with stock gearing! Easier to tune than the 2.5R. Gobs of torque to get some speed out of the corners. Slightly less RPMs than the 2.5R, so more gearing is needed if you don't want to lose top end speed. Direct drop in for the revo is a plus.
Engine:........NovaRossi 528 XR (8port non pullstart)
Truck: ..........Lightning Stadium Pro
Fuel: ............30% Odonnel
Pipe:............ Jp-1
Glow Plug: ...Turbo 5 or 6 novarossi (weather depending)
Run time: ......7-8 minutes hard racing with 8mm carb insert with violator tank
My Review:....Super easy to break in, ultra reliable and holds a tune all day long. I have approx 3/4 of a gallon through her and she keeps getting strong. Don't think there are to many engines with this much power. Must adjust driving style to control it, and I run it on the fat side so it is more controllable.

Engine:........REX P5X
Truck: ..........Kyosho 777 SP!
Fuel: ............30% Odonnel
Pipe:.............O.S. 2050
Glow Plug: ...MC-8
Run time: ......6-7 minutes hard racing with 8mm carb insert
My Review:....Super easy to break in, ultra reliable and holds a tune all day long. I have approx 1 1/2 gallons through it. With most high end engines they are not really broke in until a gallon or so. This is a great 1/8th scale engine, it has mega low and mid and it lacks a little in the high end. The high end can be improved by switching to a different pipe. But it is definitely powerful enough to launch or buggy over a set of doubles that are right after a turn.
deleted.....mouth in gear without brain fully engaged.
SOme people might not have $$$ for an upgraded engine and stock engines can be had relatively cheap on ebay. Most stock big blocks can fit a huge range of vehicles. It also can be helpful for someone looking to get a new kit and wants to know how the engine is.
George, right after I posted I thought about the pipe change aspect, and you're correct. If there's data on mods to stock engines, that's good data. Data on 100% factory stock configurations can be found anywhere, so those I would not find useful. Maybe someone considering a new stock vehicle purchase would benefit from the reviews.

So here they go....

Revo, stock 100% except 3232 Traxxas plug.
Never timed it but runs maybe 10 minutes on stock tank.
Stock pipe, extended the stinger with tubing past rear body/bumper. Made it louder, but no diff on performance.
My engine tunes easily but tends to be hot head! Smokes and makes power but stilltemps out at 290-300 after a serious run. Have read elesewhere that this isn't uncommon. Using OD's 20%. We have 2.0 gallons runtime with no problems so far.
I just bought a stock T-15 for my MT2, $70 brand new.
Engine:........Traxxas 2.5R
Truck: ..........90% alum T-Maxx (9.2 lbs.)
Fuel: ............20% Trinity Horsepower
Glow Plug: ...OS LC3
Pipe:.............RDLogics bent 2.5 maxx
Run time: ......A little over 10 minutes
My Review:....Wheelies on all surfaces with good tune (stock gearing). Seems to run hot and tuning can be a challange. Not to many others will match RPM's with this motor. As Mr. Tune pointed out the composite carb can crack and threads can strip if you're not carefull.
Vehicle:.....Predator maxx
Engine:.....OS .18 CV-RX
Fuel:.........Trinity Platinum 30%
Pipe:.........Traxxas blue tuned pipe
Glowplug:..OS 8
Tank:........OFNA tank
Runtime:...about 10 minutes (125cc tank)
Power:......Even when geared for more top end, there is tons of low end torque for wheelies
Reliability:.mmm... The first pull of the day it starts up, after that its a real pain, and the front bearing went out in less then a gallon.
Engine:...RB Concepts S7
Vehicle:...Ofna 9.5 (ravager)
Fule:........O'Donnell 30%
GlowPlug:..McCoy MC-8
Pipe:.......... JP-2
Run TIme:...8-10
Power:... TOO MUCH FOR ME!!!!
Review:... Great moter holds a tune like a dream, ass lods of power (even with 3-4 gallons). avg running temp 230. and great for the price i payed.
Engine:........Novarossi P5
Truck: ..........X-ray XB8
Fuel: ............30% Odonnel
Pipe:.............O.S. 2050 or JP-1 RB 9886
Glow Plug: ...OD99
Run time: ......7 1/2 -8
My Review:....Super tight pinch out of the box. Power band really wakes up at gallon mark. This motor holds a tune great with a wide range of tunablility before it starts to act weird. Great low-end and very smooth power band. First P5 lasted 8 gallons befor ei decided to retire it. Second P5 is on 2 1/2 gallon mark and still runs great with a alot of compression.
Engine:........OS .18TM
Truck: ..........Traxxas Revo
Fuel: ............30% Odonnel
Pipe:.............Stock Revo
Glow Plug: ...OD99
Run time: ......8 1/2 - 9 < weather conditions vary
My Review:....Great motor when break-in is done. Found the motor to really wake up at the gallon mark.
Plenty of power for the revo. Nice feature is the spring held exhaust header. 2.5R owners know what I'm talking about. Rather disappointed with the life of this motor. First one lasted 3 gallon before rear bearing took a dump. Have heard other concerns about excessive play in the conrod after 1 gallon mark and numerous complaints about thermal seals cracking and rear bearings failures. Overall this is a great drop-in for the Revo or Maxx trucks Good low-end and top-end on the motor.
Engine:........24/7 pro
Truck: .......... Savage 21
Fuel: ............ O'donnel 30%
Pipe:............. Jammin JP-1
Glow Plug: ... O.S. 8
Run time: ...... 10 to 12 mins (est.)

My Reveiw... This is the perfect aftermarket "sport" Big block engine!! The Pro has a extremely easy break in period. It holds a very concistint tune, its extermley reliable, economicly priced ($150), and very powerful. The pro has an amazingly smooth powerband and awesome mid to high range power. It lacks just slightly at lower rpms but a good pipe eliminates this completely (wheelies are no problem)
The PRO is a 6 port sleeve design with a tear drop ported . The PRO is rated at 2.75 hp witch comes on at 31,000 rpm . This Motor screams and is more than enough for any MT
Engine:........ EB Modded Novarossi BS21B
Truck: .......... Hot Bodies Stadium Pro
Fuel: ............ O'donnel 30%
Pipe:............. Novarossi 9853
Glow Plug: ... OD99
Run time: ...... 8 1/2 to 10 1/2 (est)

My Reveiw... The BS21B is Novarossi short stroke version of the P5. Its a 5 port engine with a 14mm . The short stroke has an extremley smooth power band and is super easy to drive . Being EB modded it helps take novarossi entry level engine to the next level. This engine is quite powerful and gives up little to bigger more expensive engines. (Except georges V8!!!) This engines sips fuel, quite honestly after a 5 min main it still has 1/2 a tank of fuel so i think my estimates are pretty close to right on.
Engine:........Collari .30
Truck: ..........Mugen-J/T Truggy
Fuel: ............20% Trinity
Pipe:.............JP-1
Glow Plug:....MC9
Run time: .....Thrirsty one
Reliability:.....Roto-start fires right up with very little effort.

My Reveiw... Holds a tune great, idle screw is hard to get at in a standard buggy setup. About 1/2 gallon through and seems to be getting stonger with every tank. If this thing "wakes up" past the gallon mark...holy cr@p its gonna rip!
I got a rod for that motor if you want it rocco $20.
Ill take it joe
Engine:........EBmods Novarossi P5
RC: ..............Mugen MBX5
Fuel: ............Trinity Plat. 30%
Pipe:.............OS 2050
Glow Plug:....All different kinds, although I like the OS lc3 in it the best
Run time: .....7-8 minutes
Reliability:.....Excellent
My Reveiw.....This motor is amazing, when I pull in after my mains the motor is between 215-230 everytime! Gobs of low-mid power, too much on a loose track. The high end does lack comparred to other motors (but they are worse on low end). That issue can be fixed by gearing up some on the CB. This motor is very responsive to tuning adjustments and a little tweak on the HSN makes major changes in the running condition (that may have something to do with the fact it modded). Very nice race motor IMO. I bought it used (from a reliable source), break in wasn't even complete, for $250. There is now 2 gallons on it and it runs real nice.
Engine:........Sirio .18
RC: ..............maxx
Fuel: ............Trinity Plat 30%
Pipe:.............Sirio big bore pipe
Glow Plug:....MC59
Run time: .....7-8 minutes
Reliability:.....Excellent (in my case)
My Reveiw.....This motor was a t-maxx drop in motor, dream come true when it came out over 2 years ago. I had great success with this motor. Tuning was a bit tricky until you got comfortable with how this motor tunes. It likes a leaner LSN than you would think. I've had (3) Sirio .18's in the past, bought one of them used from a guy. He said "this motor has NO low end". When I got the motor, he was right, it had no low end the way he had it tuned. I ended up leaning the LSN a total of 1 1/2 turns and it was a monster on the low end and ran at 250F. These motors also like it a bit warmer generally around 250-300F for excellent power. This motor screamed on the top end also. Wheelies on command. My Sirio I bought new and used throughout it's life lasted 8 gallons and still ran good when I sold it.I loved my Sirio!
