I just qualified to play in the WSOP in Vegas.

At a local poker house finished 2nd in a $30 tournament qualifying me for a $220 tournament. I won that and now have a seat in any $1,500 event that I want to play plus $500 to help pay for travel. I'm pretty stoked. I still have a few chances to qualify for the main event. Big Grin
Congratulations. Big Grin
I fly out Sunday to play in a $1,500 No Limit event that starts on Monday. I'm staying at the Rio and hopefully coming back with a little more money.
congrats frosty! good luck in the tournament
Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. Hey. I'll be down at SIUE in the fall, like an hour from UofI.... So yeah we should chill lol
Quick report.

Played great, came back slightly poorer just to dumb luck. In the tournament I was doing really well until I lost a big pot with QQ vs KK. Then I kind of blinded away and lost a couple of 2 outers and a coin flip to be eliminated.

The cash games were really easy to beat. I was making great reads and the players were loose. I had worked $100 into about $300 before losing it to a 2 outer. The one that really killed me was when I had worked $100 into about $400 or so. I limped in pre flop with pocket 6's in early position. Few callers. Flop came 10-8-6. Various suits. I check to trap someone. 1 bet of about $30, 2 callers, I just call. Turn is another 8. At this point I KNOW that one guy has an 8 so I check again. He bets about $60 this time. Another guy calls, I move all in with my full house. He thinks, and calls. He has an 8 as I thought, with some crap kicker. I'm a 98% favorite to win the hand at this point as he has ONE out, another 8. What comes on the river? The LAST 8 and he rakes in the pot that was somewhere in the range of $1k. I went bust.

My buddy loaned me $100 to play a bit more the last day. I played for about an hour or so and made a quick $150. All in all I was down a bit for the trip, but nothing terrible. Vegas is awesome and I'm definitely going back.
Was that english?
Poker English.

I'll sum it up.... I was a favorite (a huge favorite at times) to win a few BIG hands. Had they held up I would have come home with at least a few thousand dollars. Some people just got extremely lucky against me is all. Either way I had an awesome time and it is easy to make money at poker out there if you are halfway decent. Lots of bad players. I just needed some more time. I'm going to try to get back out there at the end of the summer or over winter break.
Gotta make your own luck

Trapping 2 people into a $1000+ pot when I'm a 98% favorite to win (one guy drawing dead, another to one out in the deck) is pretty damn good in my book. I lost a few to 2 and 3 outs as well. If you play long enough these don't matter and they all even out. I was only there for a few days though.
Good to see that engineering education not going to waste.

Ouch.

Also, I changed my major 4 times because I was confused and not committed. I'm going back to engineering and feel that I can actually be successful this time. Dedicated with a goal.

On the other hand, poker has netted me most of my spending money. The local game got shut down so I had to beat up on one an hour away. Turned $100 into $600 tonight. Bills covered for the month plus some spending money. Wink
