Lowden
Castle Rock
Kickapoo (and all parks related)
Weldon (Clinton Lake)
WolfCreek (Lake Shelbyville)
Channohan state park
etc...

Each of these parks are in districts apposed to Fago...I mean Blago... If you go to the park itself there are petitions available to be signed. The Gov states that these closings are do to budget cuts yet, Kickapoo is a cash cow for the state (brings in way more money than it cost). Not only will these closing suck just do to the loss of good hiking/biking/canoeing/camping but, it will kill the economy in several of these areas. Being from Kickapoo area I can tell you, Vermillion county only exists because of that park system and the tourism that it brings in.

Parks like Kickapoo cant be gated off/locked. A main county road runs right thru the middle of the park and will be staying open. Lowden is basicaly on a ridge above the town of Oregon, if you have ever seen the 40' tall Indian Chief you know the park... going to be hard to block it off and let teh Chief fall apart.

I see it creating perfect locations for meth labs. I dont get why they dont just turn the parks over to the county instead of just closing them.

Our kids did Outdoor Education at Loredo Taft, which is next door to Lowden, so, yep, I've climbed those stairs to Blackhawk, and watched eagles over the Rock.

The trail along the river is spectacular.

It sucks that they are closing the parks.

On another note, this is exactly the type of thing I was warning about in the "Smoking Ban" thread. Blago will keep taking things away, only worrying about himself.

you know, we bitch about the kids running in gangs and just generally being screwed up... why is that? it's because we close the damned parks and fishin' holes to them so they have no other choice but rob and do other stupid shit! We just don't give them a choice a lot of time...

you are right about that, if we didnt play football or baseball and shit as much as we did when I was younger we wouldnt have had anything to do at all. There just isnt anything close like that for kids to go to, like back in the day that I hear all you old guys talk about. You know the days of walking to and from school both ways lmao

I heard by the time they are done there will be 26 parks closed. Marseilles park is also on the list. My buddy lives there and he was telling me how shitty it is that they are closing it. These parks will be closed and just let the weeds grow. No selling them to county to make money or even city. They aren't even trying to sublet the work out with in county and city. It.s all about them and they could really give a shit about us or our kids. Theirs sit in multimillion dollar mansions. This state is in deep trouble. It's a known fact it's corrupt and you can MARK my word. When it's all said and done. Blagobitch will be sittin next to ryan.

We have been fighting it like crazy down here. Kickapoo is where I do all of my riding locally. There is so much to that park that it would be a shame to lose. Supposedly there is a bill on the table to reallocate funds that may save all or most of the parks. Not sure yet. I just don't see how they can want people to get out and be active and then try to close some of the most beautiful locations in the state just to pad their own pockets a little further.
