So it turns out I did pretty well on my ACT. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that listed what colleges would be in my range?

I got a

Composite score of 29

English 32
Math 28
Reading 29
Science 25
Combined English/Writing 29
pretty good score. not sure on the range thing for schools. i got a 22
I think a 29 will get you into most schools excluding the Yale, Harvard types. I know 29 was the cutoff for U of I engineering school.
test scores alone mean nothing.
schools look at your GPA and the class you took in HS as much as test scores.
I know many students with 30-31 ACT's who could not get into UofI Champaign because their GPAs were low, AND they did nothing else while in HS. The leadership, student government, community service, jobs, etc....all add up to well rounded students that colleges are seeking to admit. Very competative schools like Champaign gets apps from all 50 states and getting in from IL is tougher every year.

Contact admissions officers with schools you feel are the kinds you want to attend. With GPA, class rank and test scores, they can tell you pretty quickly if you will get in.

IF you go to the Big East schools, they also want good SAT's and SAT reasoning scores, as well
That will get you a lot of places if you have a good GPA to go along with it. The list of schools that you couldn't get into would be a lot shorter.

I got a 30 on mine

English:29
Math:35
Reading:22
Science:34

I fell asleep during part of the reading section. It was just so damn boring. Haha I was projected a 34 by my practice exam scores but a 30 would get me where I needed to go. A 34 wouldn't have saved me any money so I didn't stress out over taking it again.
And where you attend HS makes a difference as well, because a 4.0 GPA from Paducah KY is a lot different than a 4.0 from Naperville IL.

There were something like 75 students in the last senior class that had 4.0+ gpa for there entire 4 years at Central.

40 had 4.25 or higher.

Getting a 4.0 was like *yawn* for some of those kids.

Then you apply to Princeton (or such) and say you had a 4.1 GPA and you get a blank stare....sorry, we don't take lower than 4.3 gpa unless you can throw a foorball 80 yards or hit a golfball like Tiger Woods.
wow ponch is smart? no way! I got a 31 dont remember my subject scores, I know i got bent over pretty well in math though.

Dave is completely right about the grades thing. Colleges like to see something different. The good schools, everyone has all A's, sucked their teachers balls, did student govt, played sports, etc. Your application essays are very important, dont just blow them off. If you actually put some thought and creativity into them, they might actually take you lol. Make sure to put down the RC thing. Make it sound like more than it is. I know that helped me get into NU, still trying to figure out how i got in this place lol. I put down all my sponsors, sent them the magazine covers I painted, parma ads, paint demos etc. Anything out of the ordinary will work in your favor. Unless its like you know "Best Meth Lab in J-town, courtesy of the
Joliet police department"
lol

Joliet Community Crackhouse.
Funny Paducah, KY was mentioned. I'm typing this from my Hotel room in Paducah as we speak.

Pretty weird little city.......
Head on over to Murray, home of Murray State University.....it gets even weirder !!! The Boy Scout Hall of Fame Museum used to be there, but I think they may have moved it.
I've been to the boy scout hall of fame.... not that great lol
I got a 28 on the ACT. Going to boulder in the fall. I just graduated yesterday!
congrats... your test scores will get you into the University of McDonalds Big Grin
28 will get u into most state schools, probably not U of I
If UofI is the goal, you can always keep retaking the test and use your best score.
I took it 4 times, man that was fun..

I thought they start to average your scores after the second time?
UE-Maxx Wrote:I thought they start to average your scores after the second time?

Nope. But some schools do require to submit all results, not just your best scores. Again, this is more common with the Ivy league, big eastern schools.
ya they stopped averaging the scores. Wouldnt have really mattered I got between 29-31 on all 4
Got it.

28 will definitely get you into most of U of Is programs as long as you have a decent GPA to back it up.
probably not the engineering or business schools
Again, depends. I got into Civil Engineering easily and only had a 30. A 28 with a good GPA will likely get you in. Same with Business.
Its harder now, especially for people from illinois, go figure
decent gpa being 4.0 or so....
