I doubt anyone would look for/see this in the marketplace, so I hope this is ok here.

I'm in need of some subs... no subway jokes please, they're all tired.

Something to match my amp is mainly what I'm looking for.

Alpine m850 (something like that)

800 watts RMS @ 2 Ohms
500 watts RMS @ 4 Ohms

Let me know what you have. Must be able to take the power, preferably 12" or 15" (any bigger, probably won't fit).

With box would be ok, but not entirely necessary.

Let me know
Matt
I got 2 12" infinity's Infinity - Car Audio . They are a great set of subs. They would rattle windows on a house like 4-5 houses down. Very clean subs with great sound. $100
didnt u already mess this up once poncho?
as long as he gives me money he can mess up mine to for all I care Big Grin
Box too or no?
J/c, because new (for a pair) they're $100, and I saw a set in a bandpass box at Bestbuy go for $60 one day.

If it has a box... Pm me, maybe we can work something out.
without the box. Best buy doesnt even sell those anymore. Crutchfield still has em for 100 each. A couple other sites have em to for same price. I cut it in half. Not sure how you saw em at best buy when they dont carry that model anymore
They did at the Orland Bestbuy about a month ago... idk.

Alright, well I'll let you know. Thanks for the offer. Gotta see what I will be able to do for a box.
Have Ian build ya one. He built mine and it was awesome. They hit so hard and the box he made was really nice. I had no complaints with it.
I don't know if Ian is still building boxes, but he might be. If you are going Infinity get the Kappa Perfects and not the Reference series. Huge improvement and not that much more expensive.

How much are you looking to spend? Why are you looking at 2 subs? You would be best with one nice 10" or 12" IMO. 15" isn't necessary and I think a single sub will hit harder and cleaner off of your amp.
i got 2 10'' s $40 with box
But they are probably Duals or something similar.....
I've got 2 MTX 12" Brand new in the box. Not sure which model. White box with red writing. I can get details after work if interested.
MTX's...made right up the road in WI..maybe they have a company outlet store? just thinking out loud.
Going to try to answer everything in one post...

Dan-Looking to spend around $100 for now, to get at least the sub(s).
I want two because of the power issue. Any one sub that can handle 800 watts rms is going to be expensive. With two subs, it cuts down the cost a little.

Travis-If you have a link, a name, some specs, or something that would help Smile

Slaytanic-Sure, grab some details on them for me when you get home. Thanks.

Dave-KK

Thanks,
Matt
Ya but Dan you know damn well he is very likely to blow up this set to. His other ones lasted like what, 2 weeks? Go cheap and learn how to use the stuff then start swapping over to some good brand name equipment.
Other one lasted about a month, but double the recommended power is likely to be what did it...

That's why I'm looking for something matched to my amp.
One sub will hit, Don't max it out. Just because it is rated doesnt mean it will last if peaked all the time. 1 Sub is a cleaner non annoying sound. You should be aiming for best sound quality not loudness.
Something tells me ponch wants to roll like a gangster. Even if he says he wants SQ I think he secretly just wants everything to rattle. That said.... Find an Adire Audio Brahma, or something from RE. It will hit clean and as hard as you could every want it to. If you want to stay a bit cheaper, get an Alpine Type R.
Dude, ponch has to roll like a gangster, look where he goes to school. F'in gangsterville joliet central.

Just the other day (march 7th maybe?) there was a huge gang fight outside of school, some guy jumped on this dude's car and started beating it with a 2x4, then the guy in the car threw it into reverse and floored it into a crowd of 50+ people and sped off.
So you wanna draw attention to yourself with loud subs and some sort of system so people can jack your ride and steal all your shit why?
My buddy at the speed shop has an audio set-up he's lookin to sell, i'll get some pics of it and specs for ya bud! Still got that betty body? Hold on to it for me! Big Grin
You want to spend $100??

2 subs is not the answer to "use all of your power". Just wait. Seriously. Save up for one nicer sub in a well made custom box and you will be much happier. Have someone tune it for you and just forget it. A nicer sub will take all you can throw at it and just keep begging for more. My Brahma is running at about the recommended wattage right now but I know of many people running much more to them with no problems. RE has some subs on the same level. MTX's higher end line is nice, but overpriced once you get there IMO.

Their cheaper stuff is just that, cheap. Stay away from Sony X-Plods. They do what they say though, explode. Major problems blowing voice coils and don't sound that great to me. The only sub I would ever by from Circuit City or Best Buy is an Alpine Type R. Everything else is just a temporary hold over until you get to the real audio. Think of it as a VERY entry level RTR that you can't upgrade.

I would try to save up $200-$300 and then go to a sound shop and see if they have any demos or blemished stuff that they want to sell. You can probably find a used JL Audio W3V2 for about that price if you look.

Even more important is the box. You can take a crap sub and make it sound alright in a good box. You can make a good sub sound like crap in a crap box. If you can only have one good, it should be the box. 3/4" MDF minimum MAYBE more if you are going crazy. Shouldn't be needed though. I'm running 3/4" and its solid. (Use baltic birch if you have extra money and know that the box you already made out of MDF sounds good.) Brace the hell out of the inside. There are calculators online that can help you calculate volume for sealed and ported boxes, along with port size and length if necessary.

/end rambling
Oh yeah..... lock your car, turn your shit down around school. Don't ask for trouble. People aren't going to think you're a badass because you're louder. They will just want to steal it and then you're back to square one.

Hell yeah, I will never do that again. My buddy has one 10 in the back of his Neon, and used to have it on while he waited for school to start in his car.
Well about two weeks ago, somebody jammed a screwdriver in the lock of his door and tried to break in, thankfully they didn't.
I hate people who steal...if I caught someone trying to break into my car, I would break their face with something large and metal.
