Have fun with insurance on a newer G6. If I were you I'd go for something cheaper. Its not the car payment that kills, but the running costs (insurance is a big one)
Ya, i think were looking at newer and used ones, im not 100% sure yet.
Sorry that dididint make alot of sense i was tired earlier, what i meant was that were looking at used cars, not necessarily g6's but we know mike gillespie who own gillespie pontiac so we are gonna try and get something from him.
Bill Walsh in OTtawa has some decent GM used cars. Im actually here right now, Lol... Honda of Ottawa has nice used Hondas. they are a bit pricey though.
I have nice Accord you can have for a song...only 3000 miles.

Sweet well prolly check it out, were going to go check out some honda dealers today actually. My mom has had 3 hondas and she thinks theyre great for a first car because of reliability and gas mileage.

All my family has driven is hondas. on all of our cars we've gotten 200k+ miles with no mechanical trouble. Besides the prelude, 2 trannys, motor had 190k on it, ran good still. Lol
word of caution. NEVER BUY AN AS IS VEHICLE. I inspect them and they are garbage, frequently needing brakes and tires etc. just never do it, anyone lol. Unless you just need a work car then it might be worth it, but for kids, an as is is not good.
Ya, we were checking out some of the older civics like the 05's and '04 just because i hate the way they made the newer ones, (from '06 up). The ones we were looking at have 37,000 and 42,000 miles and my mom and dad both say theyre hondas easily were at 200,000 when they sold.
When me son was looking for his used car, we couldn't touch a Honda, or a Nissan, or VW or any quality import for under $8000 UNLESS to had 80,000 miles on it. Yeah, you can get lots of miles on them, but you will pay for it in maintenance, over the long haul.
We ended up looking at Ford Taurus' and other fleet type cars. You can get a 50k mile Taurus for $5000 if you shop right.
The thing I learned while used car hunting is that you really need touse the power of the internet to help you. The dealerships have internet pricing that WILL BE lower than the salesman in the showroom or lot will even be aware of. Use AutoTrader.com to find the deals. You do have to move fast when you find a car you like, we saw lots of good options get sold out from under us in hours of seeing them, while we went home to "think it over".
Do you research about what cars you want, and what they should be selling for, and when you see the one that fits the criteria, make the deal. At some point your time and effort starts to have a real value.
Last thing, by buying a car with much lower value, you can avoid the expense of insuring the vehicle. Our son's 2001 Mercury Sable would be $1600 a year to insure for collision. The car is only valued at $6500, unless he totals it, I'm willing to repair it up to $1600 (once). But he does only drive it to school and work, and does not put lots of miles on it, so for me, that is an acceptable level of self-insured risk.
my .02, having just gone through it last fall.
my Honda was about 7500. Fully Loaded 98 Accord. (laugh at the price...go ahead. But it was a well maintained dealer car)and I drive about 20k+ miles a year so I needed a dependable car. Nissans are good. My little sentra I had before this car NEVER had any problems, besides oil change, alternator, tires, and it blew a water pump once. they're known to leak oil from the pan but thats an easy fix. I got it at 100k miles, put 100k on it, and when i got rid of it, It still started fine ran good got 29mpg average, the transmission was a little rough but it didnt slip and bang and the engine had NO power. but for what it got me through I loved that car. Plus the kid who boughti t got my stereo.
. I've put 18k on the honda, and the only maintenance I've had to do was Tires, and Oil changes. I expect ot get to at least 180k before I get rid of it.

Thanks for the tips. My drivers ed teacher said basically the same thing, not to get insurance unless its over a certain amount. Well have to see about the car first to decide what insurance we'll get or not.
