Just starting another scale build. I was at a Walmart browsing around when I saw this for $20 so I figured what the heck I've always wanted a scaler with a open roof. A buddy of mine in MN has one of those early Tamiya YJ lids on his scaler and I've been looking for something similar to drive along side him when I'm bashing that far north. I figured this jeep would fit the build. This is going to be a more simple type rig to better take the abuse. 4 link style suspension should yield better crawlability then my past leaf sprung trucks.

Here she is box stock.

very interesting! Keep up the good work on the build out.. What axels/wheels/tires you putting on it? Stock Chassis?
speaking of walmart, how are those nylint crawlers you can buy form there for a beginner?
going to look great Im sure!!!! I have been considering picking 1 up but just cant do the true scale thing yet.

Nylint stopped be sold at walmart a couple years ago, only place you can find them is ebay. For the money you will spend to get one going good and keep it going, just buy a WK and convert it.
I dont want to get too serious, just to mess around a little
Nick...Personal experience here... JUNK.

Like he said, get the new WK 4x4, they are around $215 NEW!
Maybe that or the axial, i just need places to crawl
Uhh Naperville dude.. That hobbytown is closer to you than leisure hours raceway is to you... way closer.

Jeep looks good Smile Don't forget to bust out the silver sharpie and get the door hinges and other things that are shiny lol
Chrome the mirrors.

Aren't the wheel arch skirts flat black on those Jeeps?

Mirrors will be black.

Paint is drying on the flares.

There is two different versions the New bright Jeep Unlimited and the one I have. The Unlimited one looks goofy and out of shape. This one doesn't look out of wack at all except for the bushwacker flares.

I placed flashlight lenses behind headlights for a more realistic effect.

Well seeing how many people have this Jeep on other forums. The simple chassis idea went out the window.Confusedmash: Decided to build the chassis to 1:1 specs with a long arm kit. Here it is in the starting phases.

Sort of close eh?

I need to trim that lip off the back of the Jeep and bend the frame so it sits right.

The bends look like a lot of fun (yeah right). Not sure if I'll bend them all.

I have a 10 minute video of how I made the chassis bending and cutting. I'll upload it if there is interest.Idea

Here is a updated preview pic. That r/c forklift and jack sure comes in handy.Big Grin

Wow... Just wow! You nevver fail to blow my socks off with your projects
stellar build so far
I have tried that method for building chassis' and for some reason mine never look as good as yours.
Yeah it took 3 trys to get the chassis where it is now. If your planning on making one, buy a lot of extra.

Pretty easy though, far easier then cutting them a from a sheet.

Very cool Ben! :joy: I did mine the same way except with a oxy acetylene torch at work, makes it a lot faster, that's one advantage at work! Confusedmash: I need to split it yet and of all things we don't have is a band saw!Confusedmash: Nice work there Ben, where's Jim? lmao Big Grin

Matt
now you need to box that frame. Ha HA HA
I was going to use the Oxy Mapp torch, but plain mapp heats a larger area as I don't have any large tips for the oxy torch.Big Grin At $8 a tank it gets expensive too Oxy tank only lasts about 15-30 minutes as it hard to compress in them cylinders. Some butt hole returned a few used ones to Menards one time.Rolleyes I need to go out one of these days and just get decent set of tanks.

Box, hmm yeah that is tough.
