We cannot afford to keep our 15 mpg Expedition, so we are looking to get rid of it.

What is out there that can fit 3 adults and two children and gets better mileage? Thanks in advance for the suggestions. Parents probably want 2000 and up (year wise)
Trail Blazer or Explorer. Not going to be a whole lot better on gas, but you will need a 3rd row seat for all the people. I'm not sure if the Blazer has a 3rd row option, pretty sure it does. Then again you could always get a mini-vanConfusedmash: .
Are the 2 children in car seats? Is so, you're only real option is a mini-van. More of those should easily get 20+ mpg.

If the children only need seat belts, than get a car. Not many cars it seems these days get less than 25+mpg (sports cars excluded).
One is in booster, one not...

My mom seems to be seriously considering the saturn ion quad coupe.
What's the family budget for a car? Which is more prefered, new or used?
15mpg? Wow. My brothers expedition with 198k miles gets 11 mpg...tops! My dad said it was better when he bought it new though.
Like them or not, mini-vans are the most room for the buck. Not always very luxurious (although they can be), but functional as heck!

<$15k, Used or new..probably used for that price though.

Oh, gotta be 4 door also.

That's just what it says online. never really paid attention to real life mpg.
For that price if you want new you can get a brand new pontiac g6. Food for thought, its a pretty decent carSmile
Sounds like your best bet is a minivan. You won't sacrifice the room, and gas mileage will be tons better.
They don't want a minivan, just overheard a conversation they had about it.
I never thought I would say this but Chevy Malibu! Newer ones of course! PLENTY OF ROOM! I'm 6'2'' and can sit in the back seat as if I were in the front! Lol

Got a hell no to that one, for some reason they have a grudge against chevy.

HAHAHAHA Thats what I said about the car at first but it grows on ya.
honda pilot
^Too expensive.
Look into a wagon of some sort... (VW? Subaru?) or even a new scion. They are not the greatest looking cars but my buddy gets 37-42 mpg in his scion Xb on a regular basis......
Looked at an xb but they only fit 4 people from pictures that I've seen.
3 in the back I think. Look at the scion cars too (don't remember which). They are cheap to the point you could probably get one new and like I said, the fuel mileage is amazing.
Horse and wagon....

Carrots and hay are cheaper than gas

You were right, 3 in the rear...And mom doesn't outright object to it so that's cool.
hond pilot, thats what we have, you can get a used one for a good price
Hmmm...My parents seem to be ok with the idea of a scion, honda civic, saturn ion 3, or mazda 6....So what's your guys' opinions on those for now?
Scion. Best gas mileage out of all of them and reliable. I do not like civics. Saturns are cheap crap IMO, and the Mazda 6 is a nice car but will not get near the mileage of the scion. My $.02
how abut the dodge nitro?. Thats my next vehicle for sure
btw I didn't post honda pilot hoobajoob did lol.
