You heard me! Read this on some other forums.. thought i would share

May 15th is suppose to be the day where no one pumps gas, you can pump gas on the 14th, but none on the 15th. It is to help bring sales of gas down and the prices to lower some what. I understand that they will just make there money back on the 16th, but the gas prices will be at lest $.50 lower a gallon of the US doesnt buy gas. Hey, whats to lose. You could save $20 on the 16th when filling up.
Only problem with that is,there will be a flood of cars at the pump the day before,or the day after to get fuel. In the end, they still get their money.
yeah... Cuz that would matter to the oil companies.. They KNOW they're gonna get it sooner or later....

Asume the postion and like it.
Yeah every year this idea goes around every year since I started driving in the 90's. Like was stated not filling up on a specific day won't do anyhintg.

A much better idea instead of not filling up for a day would be for everyone to park their cars for a week. literally not drive them at all or use any gas for a week. that would send a message but its unlikley that will ever happen.
The longer the protest, the harder it will hit the big oil groups. So one day wont be enough. 2-3 days will make a dent.

We are in this spot because they are not producing the amount of gas that they should be. There are many different reasons. Most are because they are doing planed work on the stations that produce the gas. Which to me is a freaking joke. Plan something major like that at a time when the need for gas is starting to rise? Thats a joke. But their hands are tied because the feds wont let big oil build anymore new refineries. So we are stuck with what we have.
then after a 2-3 day protest people will have to get gas it wont work
You will have to get gas sooner or later. They will get their money. But the point is to make them wait for it. Going 2-3 days without fueling up will hurt them. They do have daily production costs. They do have an amount they want to make per day. So the longer it goes, the more it will hurt.
you guys are missing a major difference. Not filling up for a day or few days but still driving car like normal will make no difference at all. The real key would be to NOT drive the car or use any gas for several days. Just don't start the enigne, and don't consume any fuel. If you don't use the gas for those days you won't have to run to the pumps to fill up. the day after the gas protest. that would actually send a message.
That is correct camaro. Just because you dont fill up,but you still drive, your still going to fill up like normal. The real point should be to not drive at all. But for many, that is their only option to get to work or where ever they have to go. I know it is for me,so unless I take 3 days off LOL. I only fill up about once/twice(depending on the weekend) a week anyway.
a better and more effective way would be to cut down on joy rides to none, and when you stop at the pump, dont fill up, jsut get 1/3 to 1/2 tank, if you do that for a week or twop the gas at the pumps will start to add up and theyll have to lower the price.

not driving for a whole week would be even better, but theres no way that will happen, since some people live too far from work, and most people are to lazy

Thats only one small part of the reason for this BS. The BIG reason is OPEC feels the fuel prices were too low so they are withholding oil and using the excess to build up the reserve while skyrocketing oil prices at the same time. They have total control at this tiime and not a damn thing we can do about it except bitch and complain and blame GWB. The sooner he is out of office, the better.

I say we drill in the Gulf for oil and never have to buy from OPEC again. From what I understand is that there is enough oil available in the Gulf of Mexico to last the US for at least 10 years but, the only thing holding this little project back is the fact fish will die (rolls eyes and flipps off the EPA and PETA). Now here is my crazy plan to make everyone happy..... Fish as much fish as you can out of the Gulf thenm DRILL and DRILL until your blue in the face! (once again flipps off the EPA and PETA)
I have been riding my bike and not using gas for months...... And yet the prices still go up. Someone explain this to me. Haha
Alaska and the Gulf would be enough to last a good amount of time...

Out of curiosity..... what do you know about drilling for oil in either location? On top of that it probably wouldn't make gas any cheaper since we actually pay our workers here in the US. Its a vicious cycle.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
Since when is $2,292,000,000.00 rounded up $708 MILLION to be almost $3 billion? Don't take a statistics class if that's your math... If you take the small percentage of people that will actually do it among the internet viewing Americans it will put just a small nick in the profits of oil companies. As nice as it would be to think that this one day will change their view, it won't. Americans are far to dependent on oil and they know this. This thing basically turns into another chain letter that no one really pays attention to.

Its called copy and paste, no my information.
Haha..... you should post where you get your info from then because it is obviously not even a reputable source. If you decide to post it as your own I would at least make sure the info is correct. In the end as nice as the idea seems it simply will not work. You would be better off walking to work or riding your bike one day out of every week than simply parking your car for some random day....
I got an email saying the same thing about the 3 billion. Not even close.
Another thing you aren't considering is that you really wouldn’t be hurting the oil company as they more then likely already have there money form when the gas station bought the fuel. So really you’re hurting the gas stations and not the oil company for that one day, so the only way you can make the oil company start to panic is to limit your gas out put for a few weeks.
sorry dan let me apologize for all of us, we just dont know as much as u do Rolleyes

Still a dick huh? I think anyone should be able to look at $2,292,000,000.00 and tell that its a looong way from $3 billion.

We could do that, but it would be too costly. The oil from those areas have a high sulfur content that is too costly to refine out, which is why we sell the oil from those areas to Japan. None of it can be used in the States because it would be unable to meet our emissions standards.
