Well since hoobajoob is thinkin about getting into racing buggy maybe I'll try out the truggy class. That way we'll both have pit b&@#$s. I was looking at the mutilator. Seems like a decent price at 399. I also like the ttr st-1 but can't seem to find a price on a rtr. I am not looking for a kit. I like to upgrade as I go. Any suggestions?

A buddy of mine was looking into cheaper ( entry level ) truggies, and the Ofna Mutilator came up. At first glance it seems like a great choice, and even maybe based lightly from the Jammin ( same family ) but after reading a couple reviews, it seems clear that the Mutilator is NOT based whatsoever on the Jammin, and even though it offers a lot of bang for the buck, it's not really aimed at the racer crowd...more towards a competitive basher...if that makes sense. For the $100 or so you'll save when you compare a Ofna Mutilator RTR to the Jammin RTR...you'll get a better truck for your money from the Jammin.

I say, you should consider the Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium line of trucks...they have to be the cheapest, and there are plenty of hopups available...for when you are ready to upgrade or just have more cash handy.
For new RTR the TTR. For used.... LSP, Jammin.....

The hot bodies was THE TRUCK for a long while.... Id look at one of those. Had one for 2 years
i nkow you said rtr, but mabey a non prospect mbx5T and a sportwerks engine pipe combo. all that can be had for about 525, spend a little more for some servos and you are good. still about what you would spend on a decent rtr to take to the track and race without having to upgrade anything. just my .02

Not a bad option. That sportwerks motor can really move those things too.

As for the LSP... It is a little heavier than the newest truggies, but still very competative IMO. I actually bought Rocco's LSP. Sweet truck and can be had for a pretty good deal. Scan the Truggyracers forums and I'm sure one will pop up.

I bought mine on Ebay at Christmas time...brand new in box never used, Pro RTR, all the stuff on it...for $375. I could have used it as-is out of the box as it comes with a .26 engine, roto start for starting, etc. But I parted out the stuff, engine, roto start, electronics, body, etc. But I wanted to swap over to 17mm style hubs, so I'm putting a few more things on it before I run it. I'll be running it with an O.S. VG 30, Jammin JP1 pipe.

I don't know if you'll be able to find another one for $375...as I've been told since then that the dealer cost is over $450 on them. I just sniped the auction and got lucky. :joy:

New it would be a bit hard to get for $375 unless someone is just clearing out stock. Are you going to be racing the .30?? And I have to say I do like the 17mm style hubs. It really is a great truck.
the info is appreciated. Any other suggestions I like seein what other people are running and have had.

Yes, I'll start off with the .30...I know it will be a gas hog but from the reviews I've read on it...sounds like a good tunable engine...not as high strung as one of the race .21's...even though it's thirsty. Sad Not only am I putting on the 17mm hubs but I'm also machining some suspension arms from High-Tensile Strength Delrin instead of the aluminum...we'll see how it goes. Maybe they'll be too brittle and snap, but I know they'll be stronger than the plastic HB arms ( as far as stretching and bending ) and they will be lighter, cheaper, and more forgiving than the aluminum arms.

someone tell me about the sportwerks mayhems they look interesting
I have a mayhem st and I really like it. Mine has been modified with a custom extended chassis and shock towers plus a bunch of other things. I bought it from MX Kevin from this board. I am not a racer, mainly a basher and I go to LH from practice 1-2 times a month. The truggy is pretty durable, handles well and is easy to work on. The sportwerks engine that comes with it is easy to tune and has a ton of power. I think it is a great truggy if you are not planning on racing all the time. You can race it but a lot of upgrades are needed and the cost begins to add up.
with the way I drive I'm sure the cost is gonna go no matter what I buy lol

As for the Mayhem, looks like a pretty good truck from what I have seen. I think it is either shorter or narrower (or both) than a lot of truggies, but I can't remember. I have always loved the LSP so I would choose that over the mayhem, but that may just be personal preference.
