yeah i like sealed. but i would save your money and buy a quality amp. imo.
maybe.
DO NOT BUY THAT BOSS AMP. Seriously man..... look at the prices of some of the higher end amplifiers that are putting out half of the power. There is no way that is going to put out a true 1000 watts of clean power. Your sub will be clipping and you will destroy it. The type-r is a decent sub. Build a nice sealed or ported box (they sound gr eat in both) and get a good amp. A good amp is almost more important than the sub IMO. Seriously spend as much as you can. Look into Alpine as they put out a lot of power, sometimes a bit more than they're rated. Stay away from Dual, Boss, and all of the other crap that has big numbers on it and small pricetags. They make money off of people who have no idea....
You said no more than $200 for an amp. You were going to spend $65 on a box. You can get materials for half of that and build it yourself. So add $30 to get a $230 amp budget. Then look at this:

NEW 07 ALPINE MRP-M850 MONO AMPLIFIER 800W AMP MRPM850 - (eBay item 250174655391 end time Oct-17-07 11:04:00 PDT)
Thanks Dan.

What about others like Kenwood and Rockford Fosgate?

Oh I was looking at Alpine too but you already mentioned that.
yeah i would def go with the alpine 850. just because i prefer to kinda stay with the same brand so the wattage ratings are about the same. know what i mean. and thats double what mines putting out and what i paid for mine. i think its gonna be hard to try to get it to sound good in the expedition with a single sub and a crappy amp. imo.
You don't need to stay the same brand at all.... I just know that that is a powerful amp and puts out very 'clean' power. I am not familiar with Kenwood's line I just know that they used to be a lot better. The amp you posted is on the level of their Best Buy crap I believe. The Rockford Fosgate Power series is OK but I would stay away from the Punch series. Again, Best Buy crap. If you build a good box and have a good amp that one Type-R will be more than enough bass. Just get it tuned right.
Ok.

Tonight I'm picking up the sub. Pretty sweet.
When I either cash my check or get money outta paypal, I'm getting some 3/4" mdf and heading to john's house for help. lol. Hopefully we'll get the hang of carpeting and do his box and mine at the same time. Then it's onto getting an amp. Gotta check on wiring too. Got a buddy who can get me a whole 4 gauge setup for like $25 with capacitor...
Looking at this amp tho

Alpine MRP-M650 Car Audio Amplifier - (eBay item 150168668766 end time Oct-12-07 05:55:00 PDT)

600 rms is plenty, is over what the sub can handle though...It'll be ok?
It will be just fine. I am probly getting 800rms for my type r. Everyone keeps telling me the type r's are really underrated so im just gonna get that alpine amp posted above and keep a same brand setup.
They are definitely under-rated. I think Ian was putting over 1000 to his at one point....
Hey

I picked up the Type r today.

Things heavy. lol
dude you should have Ian build you a box. He built a box for me and it was really good. Tight sound, clean. It was also custom to fit my truck the way I wanted it. Id send him a pm and he will most likely hook you up with something good.
He could probably give you plans for a couple bucks if you want to make it yourself to good specs as well.
What would be the difference if I got a 10" or 12". Is there any big difference? Il be buying that m850 alpine amp. Whats the difference with that amp and those 2 size type r's? Gonna be run at 2ohms in a sealed box.
The 12" will play louder and deeper but will require a slightly larger box to do so.
thanks for telling me the obvious. I wanted to know how big a difference its gonna be between the 2. If I need you to answer any questions il let you know bruce, thanks.
Can I use my stock HU with the Amp and Sub? Someone in auto said it will not be able to put out enough power for the amp to effictively pick up...

How can I make this work? Really don't want to switch out the HU.
01 Expedition, 4wd, 5.4L NON Eddie Bauer.
the stock exped heads suck

If you're so damned smart don't ask such a simple noob question. I was trying to be nice. I even checked to see if the critical specs; such as the Thiele/Small parameters, Qc, Vc, Xmax, resonant frequency, efficiency etc.; on those drivers were available. They are not. No one can answer your question properly as you did not phrase it well and the data is not available.
What are some suggestions for a radio? I am thinking about touch screen, but I think that will more likely get stolen from my car.
dual makes a nice 7" touchscreen for about 300. 2 av inputs, 2 av outputs, rear camera, i plug for like plugging in ipod or mp3 player. DUAL XDVD8180 7" TFT LCD IN-DASH DVD CD iPOD RECEIVER - (eBay item 290169884971 end time Oct-21-07 10:37:04 PDT). Thats the one I got. Just got it also. Puts out clear sound to my speakers, no amp or subs yet. You can do anything with it. Even hook up a beta max to it if you wanted Big Grin.

Bruce have you tried a 10" type r and a 12" type r and can tell me the difference in them? No you havent so shut up. Dont bother being nice or talking to me either. Just f*ck off.

I know a few people on here have had experience with both and can give me some real good feedback. Il most likely go for the 10" but if theres something just so much better about the 12 id grab that. Im going for space saving right now so 10" has got my attention.
