Don't know how it happened, wasn't doing any nasty jumping just high speed runs up and down the parking lot. I hadn't touched the car for several days when I noticed a leak developing on friday.

Well, the small leak turned into a major one. Couldn't figure out where it was coming from cause it was throwing fuel everywhere! Speculated the front bearing, idle screw, or the back plate.

Well, none of the above!

Cost of repair? $70 block, $70 sleeve/piston(again!:madSmile

Bastard was WAY fast with the 15t clutch bell too! 60mph+ and instant cookie cutter front tires on a hard launch.

I'm going to try and see if OS will replace the block or at least cut me a break on the parts. A block should not crack just by running! The motor never saw over 270* even when I was doing 15 to 20sec WOT runs in the parking lot. Most of the time it sits around 230*. And still putting out a steady exhaust trail at high speeds too. My white rear rim is practically black!

I still have my Force .26 as a back-up but I don't want to go back to that slow POS! Reliable as it is, its still so SLOW!
Damn! No fun for sure.....
Yeah, I only got 2 weeks out of this engine. I spent fricken all day on breakin and had it tuned to perfection. Damn thing ran for 1.5 hours straight last monday at a show. Never got above 230* the whole day and we were drag racing like crazy. I completely wore the nubs off my tires and even caused one of the front tires to tear itself apart and explode. Funny thing is even with no compression it was still running like a raped ape. Idled just perfect for as long as you wanted it to.

Damnit, I can get a new Axial .28 which will perform almost as well as this OS for less than $120. But I LIKED the torque this thing put out. Instant hole shot and craploads of top end with the 15t clutchbell. Was out running some Sirio's during the drag races with no problems. I'd put about 10 buggy lenghts on them and hold it all the way till the end of a 70 or 80ft run. Friday night the front end was still lifting nearly 2" on launch!

If OS won't repair it, then I'm going to hold onto the engine and rebuild it over the winter, break it in, then send it in for some P&P tender loving care. Ported/Polished OS 30vg should make for some impressive power.
u need to make sure that the engine block isnt hitting the chassis at all
Its not, it clears the chassis by about an 1/8th of an inch. Nor is the chassis flexing. The Chassis is milled and relieved where the engine sits and it doesn't touch. I went through that when I tried to use the hard anno mounts that came with the kit, cept they were too short and the crank case would have rested on the chassis plate. I put a set of my aluminum ones on there and had room to spare.

From mounting tabs to the bottom of the crank case the OS 30 has the same clearance as my Force .26 does. And the Force .26 never crapped out on me like this. I could throw the Force back in there and fire it up today, its just slow.
aww man that really sucks
From the pics, it looks like your motor took a very hard impact.

Are there scratches on top of the head? Are you landing super hard on your lid, causing the head to hit the ground very hard and cracking your case?
The head is in PERFECT condition. no scratches, its never landed on its lid since I installed this motor.

The leak developed on its own over the course of an hour! Its never taken any hard landings since this motor has been in the car.

This cracked developed while I was running in a flat parking lot. The crack happened on its own.

If it happened because of a hard landing I wouldn't be complaining, that would be my own stupid fault. But its not, in a matter of 2 days it went from no leak, to leaking everywhere and all i was doing was running it in a parking lot, no jumps, no hard hits on a curb, nothing but flat land running and the temp never exceeded 270*
May have been a flaw in the casting leading to a stress crack....big torque in a thin case??? jmo
I emailed support at OS america the other day about a part needed on my old CVRX, they emailed me back within hours and sent the part out free of charge, no questions asked.

I would go to OSmotors.com and email support, they may send out a new case or have you send the motor in to be replaced free of charge.
Sounds like they realize a few free parts is worth it to keep their good name clean.
I'm going to send it in through the LHS. The problem that when the case went it also took out my piston and sleeve which I JUST put in there not even 2 weeks ago. Haven't even had a full gallon on it.
I think O.S. Motors are a part of Horizon Hobby and their customer support is great.
Well, we'll see. Who knows.

I just bought two new motors to power my two remaining buggies. Team Infinity .27 3ports. new in box, got them for VERY cheap. Under $100 per engine shipped. Warrenty too.
Your not anlone with your engine gernading like that. I have talked to a few guys that have had their OS 30s do the same thing. OS always backs their engines so they should help you out.
Yeah, i have to call the LHS and see if OS is covering it. I sent it in last week, they said they should know in about a week. Said it takes about 2 weeks for warrenty work usually.

*edit! Yes! They are covering it! They are charging $9 for shipping, but the cost listed for repair is $0.

That means I get a few things. Though it would be cool to get a brand new engine, I'm basically getting that if they repair it anyways.

The block is cracked, and the piston and sleeve are screwed. So the only things they could keep from the old engine would be the bearings (probably shot from the vibration), crank, con-rod, and back plate. lol. They might as well just ship me a new one.
hope it works out for ya
Well, they are honoring the warrenty period so I'd say I'm pretty well off there. Its gaurenteed that I'll get a running motor back, either brand new, or in brand new condition.
Congrats to ya! It's always nice to see the manufacturers backing up their products!
Damn, OS stood up and delivered! They sent me a brand new OS 30vg, 1 new pull start, a spare starting shaft for a rotostart, the rotostart backplate, a new air filter, new exhaust seal rings, and two OS8 plugs! Damn, thats some good service.

And I sent them a bare motor with a cracked block, screwed piston, scored sleeve worn out to hell and back. Screwed one way bearing, no pull start or rotostart back plate....

SWEET!!!

cool man! Now dont blow it up again! LOL! I figured you get a new one. The labor involved in building your old one wouldnt have been worth it too such a big company
Now I've run into a problem! What do I do with all this wonderful hardware?!?!?

I'm bidding on a Jammin CRT pro right now though. I'm sure i can find homes for these lovely ladies.Confusedalute:
Im glad everything worked out.Os makes some great motors but For some reason ive always heard os had bad customer service. has anyone had a bad experiance?
I only had a good experience with their customer service. They are great.
Well, once i get it in the car and broken in I'll have to put some good tires on it and see how much damage I can do to the car at the track trying to control it. Big Grin

I've got good control but I don't really have a track close enough to get daily practice in with an actual technical circuit. I've got good air control though, hitting ramps 90% of the time does that. :joy:
