a friend of mine got some r/c cars today that are chaindrive not belt drive.. does anyone know if these are just upgraded for durability or old school and out-dated???
sounds real old
yeah prolly old school............but it prolly looks pretty kool
older, the mad force was chain drive.
pics?
madforce has it, I have one of those still, never broke a chain or the spindle things. Seems to give it a little more torque
I was think old old like optima pro and chit...
nah it made it through all the intense bash sessions i put it through, running the bases jumping snow berms and garbage cans of course Smile hahahahah i didnt run a exhaust deflector so it might no have had as much power as it should have had Wink hahahhaha
Zing!
aight i was just wondering cuz my buddys uncle died and he must have raced them before and has like 50 differnt on road cars and the 4wd ones are chain drive.. i was just trying to get an idea on what i was really looking at here...lol
sounds like old kyshos too me
I belive Kyosho Optima was belt driven and the Optima Pro was chain-drive...although I could be wrong...that was a long time ago.
I know the pro was chain drive.... I had one!
I had an Optima...but I can't remember if it was chain or belt...it was 20 f!@#$%^ years ago...I can hardly remember last week. Big Grin
Im almost positive.....

I remember it was all red anodized, low and 4wd...thats about it.
Thats the one! It was my older cuz's and he basically gave it too me ... Then it broke and we had no idea how/were to get parts so i went to the hobby store and bought a Kyosho raider Pro!
Kyosho Optima and Optima pro were chain drive. An optional belt was offered but it was not an improvement. Also, the Kyosho Rocky was chain drive as well. The chain worked surprisingly well, and made a very cool metalic sound when driven. My buddy still has his with all the original drivetrain still intact! He never broke the chain or a gear and still drives it now and then.

For a while there was a huge resurgence in interest for these cars and the old school stuff was going for big bucks on ebay. People paying like $300 for a good Optima or Rocky Pro. But it seems that ship has sailed. Its tough to have fun with a truck you cant afford to break.
I just happened to see this today while looking around...
Maybe the pics will help you figure out what you have.

Dude that's awesome! I want one!
Man I wanted a Vanning soooo bad in the day. But way to much $ for a kid. I thought of getting one like that now, but I would just cry if I stripped a gear and had to shelf it.
