I don't get it. LH was to be the "premier RC facility in the Midwest" but attendance is pitiful.

With gas prices being so high I thought people would be staying closer to home and LH would be packed. What's up?
I think the low turnout for outdoor racing was predicted during the over-busy indoor season, when everyone was whining about the crowded indoor track. Back in January the options of where to race were limited and guys were driving from Peoria and Milwaukee to run indoors. Now that all of the clubs and local outdoor tracks are open, the guys have options closer to home. AND, the local Chicago guys travel to other areas for variety, it seems. And some of us (me) get busy with family stuff in the summer and find less time for the hobby.

That's my take on it.
LHR is the best indoor track around. That is why it is so packed in the winter.
Well, the only complaint I ever heard about the indoor track was the fumes. They never really bothered me though...

They bothered me, not because I was having trouble breathing, but cause I couldn't see lol
Bruce, you never heard about crowded practices, bashers and newbs wrecking racers, poor or no marshalls, crowded pits, freq problems, blahblahblah????

Man, right after the new place opened it was rampant bitchin' and moaning until everyone settled in.

I, personally, prefer a less crowded track so I can let my kids have a turn racing without fear of pissing off the Amain guys during quals. evryone has to learn somewhere sometime.
Ok, yeah, the bashers who didn't marshal were a problem, but that's the price for growth and a management issue. I'd like to see a way for the older racers/MANAGEMENT to school the newbs respectfully, as not to scare them off, and further the sport and LH's business. Frankly, the place isn't very friendly.

And frequency issues? Well, just get a Spektrum IMO. That, or through better management, stay on top of the clips.

The issues about the better racers in the quals with the lesser qualified guys is, again, a management issue. John should know the faster racers by now. He could easily lump them together before the first qualifier.
see the problem with that bruce is what about the younger kids who dont have jobs??? they cant just dump 200-300 on a radio system, im only 14 and I can barely afford trhis hobby and have thought about giving it up MANY MANY times. i got lucky that my parents are awsome and went out and bought me a spektrum dx3 sao i didnt have to spend the cash.

thats a big reasojn why there are very few younger kids who are in this hobby, that and also the older guys who run you off the track. I have had a buggy nail me on the back straight away and use me as a brake and he just looked at me and smiled.........I had to leave early because off the $40-$50 in damage caused by the ashole. if he were to apologize and say it was an accident then it would be ok with me, but to look at me and smile..........WTF did i do to him?
well there are alot of factors IMO that are at work here.

some are easy, and some are what bernbot maynot want to hear, but input is good.

well 1st as mentioned... you take all the racers and give them 1 option to race at when its 20 degrees out... yea it gonna be busy. bashers get stuff for xmas... gotta run it somewhere where you wont freeze to death.

2nd is, there are alot of tracks in the area for summer... combined with "event" races such as cash races and or some sort of "FEST" it does take away from the club style racing.

3rd LH has been open what like 3-4 weeks? proseries being 1 weekend, glitchers cash run the weekend before.... that leaves 2 so far for club races. oh wait one more... Panther race... ok 1 weekend with no major race. ok the bashers dont goto big races, but it is summer they have the local park or the back yard. if i was a basher i wouldnt pay either when its warm out, or travel way out there...

4th. now this is what im hearing out and about all over the state or 2 or 3...
the length of the straight as it is, is going to keep some people away. i know bernie will tweak the track to make it the best possible. just giving info... the track at jcp was off the hook, it flowed, was realtivly easy but still hard to go real fast...top 35 people in expert bug all had 11 laps, maybe more. what i have heard people say is that from the pics of LH, that it needs more jumps, and to break up the straight.

gotta go for now, but i might continue later...

thats nice but i remember seeing "racers" run tank after tank and not marshal. some wouldnt do it all night. so get your facts in line.

Ok, Where to begin on this set off comments....

"yeah, the bashers who didn't marshal were a problem"
I can recall MANY times that you and a few of your friends (As well as other people, so don't think I am singling you out) fit into the "non-marshall category. If you are going to comment about someone else not marshalling, you should spend more than 3-5 minutes of a 3 hour "practice" session putting in your share of Marshall time.

"that's the price for growth and a management issue"
Management put in a few rules to try to correct this, but there were people who would run their tank dry, go to the pit area, refill, and go back on the track, NEVER to set foot onto the track to marshall. These are USUALLY the people who scream the loudest at the marshalls for not being fast enough...

"Frankly, the place isn't very friendly."
Nobody said you have to go. If you don't think the place is friendly enough, don't go. I have never had any problems with Bernie or any of the other staff there. Maybe because I would follow the rules...

"Well, just get a Spektrum IMO"
Not everyone can afford Spektrum, and the New people to the hobby SHOULDN'T be made to feel inferior because they don't have "Top of the line" equipment.

"That, or through better management, stay on top of the clips."
All ANYBODY has to do, is see Bernie or the other staff, and let them know their frequency clip has been in use for too long, and they are more than happy to help track down the clip. No problems there...

"The issues about the better racers in the quals with the lesser qualified guys is, again, a management issue."
This is not a management issue, this is a STUCK UP ARROGANT opinion shared by YOU. The beginner racers don't get better by racing the beginner racers, they get better by racing against skilled racers, and trying to learn from them. Think about it, do you REALLY think that you are that good of a racer that you belong on the same track as Slayden? I think not, but you did pull off a good race on the same track....

There were NO problems at LH that could be credited to Management, in fact Management did everything they could to correct any problems they were made aware of.
who is slayden lol

There isnt much of a crowd at LH because there are big races to goto, The majority of guys that i race with, Sonny Johnny and the rest of the crew really dont club race much in the summer because there are big races, cash races, trophy races and glorified club races all over the place that many other people from around the region attend. Most of the other racers are from a number of different states, and if there is no big race goin on they will club race at their own track

+1

Maybe put some jumps on the straights, or put like a 3 inch jump in the middle of the front straight. I think that would be kind of fun.
Newguy-

Those are just Bruces opinions... And i think hes always looking to stir the LH pot so i wouldnt worry too much about his post
I'm just curious who he's going to "Call-out" next...
I know... I say let him have the soap box. The more we react it seems the more bruce gets from it.

Hehehe...haha that would be fun, the 3 inch jump. Or even a bunch of little bowl-sized ones after it in a grid format, so you have a jump all the way across and if you can't clear it you hit a little 'minefield' of bowl shaped lumps and you have to make it across them :p:
