Hi all,

I was considering taking some of my refund and getting an engine. So I thought I'd ask for your input. Thanks ahead of time....

For good but inexpensive motors go with the Hyper 8 port, SH.28, Mach.26, or XTM .247.....

For the next step you have the Picco.26

more expensive motors, there is a ton....what's your price point?

I had my sights set on something round $200... and in that price range the SH seems like it is a steal. I just called Al's and they can get it as the replacement motor for the XTM 1/7 scale buggy for $189 i believe. I think that the Hyper is a bit more money and the .247 is quite a bit less.

hyper 8 port, XTM, and Mach.26 are around $139 new

the picco .26 is around $179 (brutal torque)

the sh.28 go on ebay all day for around $130 (I've been watching some auctions) If you pay $189 for the SH.28, your over paying.

amen on the picco. i have 2 trucks and a buggy with that motor. but every once in a while you get one with a bad carb( it sticks)

The best prices I've seen for the Mach .26 is $139 at Leisure. As for the SH .28, like Tex said, it sells all day on E-Bay for $129 to $139. Haven't done much research on the XTM 24.7. I did read somewhere that all 3 of these engines are made by the same manufacturer... If you do go with the Mach .26, you are limited to a 16 tooth clutchbell with the 49 tooth spur. You can fit a 17 or possibly a 18 tooth bell with the 47 tooth spur. If you want a bigger clutchbell, you need an XTM 24.7 backplate. (The stock Mach backplate is oversized)

Thanks guys... Yeah I saw that mach .26 at Al's today. As far as E-bay... we'll I'm just distrustfull i guess and i like to do bussiness the old fashoned way. Also if at all possible I like to support the local hoby shop "if at all possible". But I'll look around e-bay to see what's up. Newguy the SH .28 and XTM 24.7 are the same company and I've heard alot of good things about the 24.7.... Not sure about the Mach. I think Mr. Tune has a Dynamite? Maybe he can chime in... All the Ofna engines seem nice too what size is the 8 port(.21 or .26)? Also what about Wasp .28 any one seen or have one? Thanks guys this is alot better than spend ing 4 wks reading forums......

Dynamite is the "Manufacturer" of the Mach .26. But like the Picco P3, the Wasp .26, and the Ofna outlaw .26 are all made by the same company, just stamped different for each "manufacturer". This is the same with the Orion Diablo .28 and the Wasp .28

What about a OS RG .21? Easyer to tune than all the engines mentioned.

That motor works good in your buggy at the track because it's a tight track. Once you get that thing out on a bigger track where you can utilize more RPM, you'll buy a new motor (or you won't keep up). The RG is a good basher motor but not the power some people want. It tunes like a dream, lasts a long time, and is a sweet motor for the price. Just not as fast as the Mach's or the Picco's (in a Monster Truck). Plus your buggy weights 8lbs and a Savage weights 12lbs. Put a 4lb dumbell on your buggy and see how fast it is

Yes it is a tad slower than the sportwerks .26 that i had in there but that thing was insane! The rg has such good throttle control..and being smooth always = faster laps. Ive watched many savages that have a hard time turning cause there lifting the front wheels off the ground just trying to get around a turn. As far as the rg not keeping up outside in my buggy...will just have to see about that!

The dynamite mach 26 is a great upgrade engine for a savage. I have it and love it. The only main problem with it, after time, it's hard to start when the engine is ice cold (like sitting in your truck overnight during winter) because the one way slips. It only happens when you first try to start it for the day. After that, no issues with the one way. Even a good enough tune will start that motor with 1- 2 pulls.

I've already witness the RG in buggies against better motors many times before. I'm not saying your motor sucks, I like it (and would buy one, for the right conditions), it just doesn't have the upper RPM of better motors. The numbers are printed and I've seen it from first hand experience. As far as Savages lifting their front wheels it all about suspension setup, tires and throttle control. I've seen savages perform well in turns and some that don't.

Overall the RG would be a better motor than any stock HPI .21 or .25 in my books just not as good as a few others in the same price range. (for a savage)

The 24.7 , mach 26, sh. 28 are alllllll Made my sh engines. The mach 26 and xtm 24.7 are very very similar. Very reliable, Eassssssssssssy to tune, very inexpensive. The sh 28 is ungodly powerful and probaly the best bang for you buck motor out right now. If i were you id look at the 24.7 "pro" Its about 180 bucks @hobbypeolpe.net so its alittle more than the 24/7 and mach BUT it has to large boost ports cut in its sleeve that make it a very potent motor, it has a very smooth powerband and revs pretty high. It also has all the same charicterstics of the 24/7 and mach (easy tune reliability ....ect) I have the 24.7 the 24.7 "PRO" and the SH 28 and there alll fine choices you cant go wrong!!!. Go to Savage-central.com in the engine guide and you can read hunderds of post on alllllll these motors

I think your the guy Smokey needs to talk to because you have so much experience with the Savy and different motors for it. Thanks for chiming in Rocco!

The only thing is I can't find the SH.28 for cheaper than $160 - $180 where are you seeing them for $130. That is why I was going to have Al's order it for me....they get it for $189... and no one else seems to stock it localy.... I've been watching them on e-bay for a while and they end up around $160+ shipping.... Thanks for the explanation Rocco it helps cause I still haven't decided and just might go for the Mach since they have it in stock at AL's. And it seems that SH is doing something right cause I looked through the boards at Savage-central and everyone loves the three engines you mentioned.... The 24.7 PRO seems like an ok deal not too shabby and the RPM range on it is a little higher than the standard. Thanks again for the info.

Newguy is beginning to have the same symptoms (the slipping one-way on cold engine starts) as well. I'm not the only one.

The one-way on my mach is having issues also, but like Tune said, it is only on the first start of the day. After that, it is clear sailing.

Due to the weather, I haven't been able to run it at all, so I just messed with the settings on the controller for a little yesterday. The endpoint adjustment for the throttle was set to 100%. But after reading the manual, I discovered that it can go as high as 125%! After all was said and done, without the spring (the one that holds the carb shut incase a servo fails), I get full opening in the carb. With the spring in their, it's a little less that full opening, but nowhere near as bad as before. The spring is just a tad stronger than the servo saver, so the only way for me to get the rest of the carb open is to do the ofna linkage mod.
If it stays dry out today, I'm gonna go outside for a little test & tune session. I'll report back with my findings .

Don't have a picture of mine, but this is how my linkage was set up...


Only difference, is I put the sliders all the way out on the Servo arm... The farther out the arm, the longer the pull.

What are the part nums for the throtle/brake mod? And I think I'm gonna get the Mach. I'm still gona PM savageLST to see if he can give me the name of the seller to see if those are still available. Thnaks....
