JOHN DEMO!!!!!!!

You need to talk to chris... John Bonies neigbor... He owns a server/computer mumbo jumbo company!!!
it was 8 when I got my next server busy message.
i get them all the time at random.. and my computer is slow anyways.. its not that the site is slow for me its that i get server busy thing pop up on me.. even when i go so send someone a pm...
random for me too.
I had this happen at both stores (DSL) and at home (dial-up), it seems completely intermediate.
Mr. Tune Wrote:Man, I've seen the site slow, but nothing like you guys.

When you guys can't get on at all, what time is it? Does the site get slow for your around the same time everyday, or is it completely random?

I fear I may have to go back to running my own server which is like triple the cost of what I got now Sad.

Dont triple your costs on our account. Its a network traffic issue, most of my errors surface randomly but I havent really paid attention to the times the errors occur. But I will to help figure it out. Who is the server outfit that is hosting the site and what plan do you have?

From what I can tell is the site is either reaching its maximum level of users and timing out other connections until the user level drops below the maximum. Or there are permission errors occurring, where do to some reason the server will not respond to end users because their permission to access the site has become corrupted.
It's not the network congestion that's causing the problem, it's the server resources. Back when I first started the site, I administered my own server. While the cost was pretty high (~$150/month) and I was on my own for updates , security, etc, but it was super fast all the time. About 6-7 months ago I switched to a shared hosting environment to cut down costs. Now I pay $50/month and I don't have to worry about anything other than running the site. The drawback is that I don't know how many other sites are on there along with me. What probably happened is that they filled it to the max and when the bigger sites on the server hit their peak traffic times it slows down everyone. IMO they are slacking in getting the bigger sites off the server and making everyone suffer.
Well that sucks...Hopfully your host will resolve issue.
Good info, John.

An since you aren't one to lean on anyone about it....users/members, please note the $600/yr that "someone" has to lay out to host this site.

See "DONATE" button on the home page.....if you haven't lately.

John, thanks for all you and the other admins do for this valueable site!
Yeah, Thanx, what does a server cost? Maybe you could buy your own and then "rent it out" or whatever to other sites to make a little extra cash.
Servers aren't cheap! lol. I do have a case lying around the house for one, if you decide to build your own. But I wouldn't mind donating a little money to help the site. But $150 a month, YIKES! I can't speak for all the members on here but I could deal with the server to busy messages, instead of putting you out!
I have to say, it happens to me about 20 times a day. It is really getting on my nerves, by I can deal with it if need be. Smile

If you started running your own server again, I can donate $20 a month to the site. who else wants to step up and make a monthly donation of $5-$10-or even $20? Only thing I ask is, don't offer unless you are actually going to provide the money each month. We wouldn't want Tune planning out payment, then some people don't come through on the deal.
Gabe,

There are 477 members here, with maybe 50 that really are on ALOT. I would think even $2-3 a month, $25/year from a core group would cover most of it. If a very affordable $10/year were donated by a majority of the 477 members, it would be a done deal.

If a mandatory $5/yr were levied against 477 members, it would be guaranteed! And who in this hobby can't afford another $5 for an "online magazine" with "live tech support" like you get here?

We'll have to see how John and everyone who runs the site wants to go with it. I'm fine pitching in, as I already do, on a yearly donation basis.
I would want it to be more of a voluntary thing, not mandatory. You want the site available for anyone to use, free of charge, then just the "cool" guys will be the ones who donate money to support the site.

If this site means a lot to you or you depend on it, please give the donation a thought.

This "server busy" message is REALLY PISSING ME OFF! I don't even want to check the boards anymore, it pops up every other time I go to post or check reply's.
I would donate some money to the cause! I don't "depend" on the board, I but would not want to see the place go down because some members are cheap!
if you have questions as a newby and always get compotent answers here......
I guess dependant is a bad word to descibe it.

+1. Just now, It took me about 40 minutes to get on!!!!!!!!!!
its really pissing me off.......................but I think if every one donated 5-10 bucks a month it would be fine..................I dont have a job and money is scarce enough but i might be able to throw in 5 a month.

but if the older guys on here with the jobs would donate 10 a monthe it would only take 15 of you..

There you go! j/k I will throw in what I can when I can.
